Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 26, 11916..
Application filed January 28, 1916. Serial Ito. 74,811.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, Josnrrr B. SINGER and ARTHUR B. LEVY, citizens of the United States, the former a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, city and State of New York, and the latter a resident of the borough of Manhattan, city, county. and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improve ments in display devices, and particularly a foldahle container adapted to contain a plurality of articles, and a display device adapted to be held in display position upon opening the box into display position, and to fold into the box and form a protecting cover to the goods when the box is in folded position.
Another ohiect isto provide such a corn tainer which will he a thorough protection to the goods during shipment, and also to the display ieatures, which depend upon their attractiveness and artistic appearance for their appeal.
A further object is to provide such a device which will he sim in construction, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other ohjects in view, our invention is shown the accompanying drawings, and wi he hereinafter more fully described refe ence thereto, pointed out the In the accompan q a perspective view sition; 1'3 0 me oozes ed ll o L closed o 20 whi be employed. These boxes may be of ordinary construction, either entirely open at their inner sides where the goods are displayed to view, or provided with recesses or pockets l3 and it, as illustrated, for containing the goods, the surrounding portions being utilized for appropriate advertising descriptive of the goods; The main display feature consists of a cardboard member 15 scored centrally, the line of scoring. being in line with the hinge of the boxes. A plurality of slots 16 are provided along the forward edge of the tops of the boxes 10 and Lil, having preferably one relatively near the end of eachtop. Hinged tongues 17 having locking extensions 18 are provided along the lower edge of the member 15, which are engagecl in the slots 16 and secure the member 15 hingedly to the box. I
. When the box is in the open position shown in Fig. 8, the member 15 automati- Cally falls into position against the front of the boxes, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. From this position the boxes be readily folded into the closed position shown in Figs. 4 and 5. in this position a compact package is provided, in which the contents and the display features are thoroughly protected against mutilation and breakage.
In open or display position, the member 15 will he supported in the upright position shown in Fig. 1, when the hoxes moved any angle hatever suitable to each oth The boxes and ll are providedat no top with ed covers 19 and l are rneans d u scribed, hinged containers, and a display member adapted to be rigidly held in upright display position in open position of the device when the said containers are moved at an angle to each other, and adapted to be placed in between the containers when the containers are in closed position.
' 2. In a display device of the character described, containers hinged along their abut ting edges, a display member hinged to the upper part of both of said containers adapt edto be folded at saidpart and along a median line of the member, and movable to a position between both containers, and to be held in upright position in open position of the device, when the said containers are moved at an angle to each other.
3. In a display deviceot the character described, containers hinged at adjacent edges, having openings adapted to display goods, a display member hinged to the upper part of said containers, and hinged centrally in line with the hinges of the said containers, the
said member being adapted to be held in upright display position in open position of the device, when the said containers are moved at an angle to each other, and adapted to be folded at its meeting line with the containers from its upright display position to a position between the containers covering the openings in the containers.
i. in a display device of the character described, matching containers, each consisting of a box-like structure, and each havin in its front wall a pocket for the goods, an hinged to each other at adjacent edges of the said front wall, a display member hinged to the upper edges of the front wall and hinged in line with the hinge of the containers, adapted to toldingly position between the containers, and to extend over the pockets, and to stand in upright display position when the containers are in open display position angnlarly to each other.
lln testimony, that we claim the foregoing as our invention, we have signed our names in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
