2 SHEETS-SHEET 2'- SUSPENDER COMPANY, CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA;
DISPLAY-BOX.
To all whom it may) concern Be it known that I, FERDINAND Sononr- TLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Germantown, in the county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Display-Box, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in display boxes.
The object is to provide improved means for packaging articles for transportation, and for displaying said articles for sale.
My invention comprises improved means for securing different articles in desired relative positions and for' displaying the same while so secured in an attractive and convenient manner.
Referring to the drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of'the box in the closed position. 2 is a similar view of the box in the open or display position. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the box open in a different display position, with one of the slide boxes slightly withdrawn. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the slide boxes. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the slides pr outer casing in the open position. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of another slide box. .Fig. 7 is a cross: section of the complete box in the flat open position with the contents removed. Fig. 8 is a similar view in the closed position. Fig. 9 is a perspective view of a bridge piece.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
As an example of a useful embodiment of my invention, I have shown in the several views of the drawings, the box and its sev eral parts adapted to receive, and carry safely, and to hold in attractive display positions, a pair of suspenders, a pair of garters and a pair of armbands.
As shown in the drawings, the box com prises two outer slide cases 9 and 10, hinged together at 11. The slide case 9 is provided with the display openings 12 and 13, while the slide case 10 is provided with the display opening 14:. These display openings face each other and when the two slide cases are closed together, as shown in Fig. 1,"t h'ese' Specification of Letters Patent.

positioned end to end, but leaving spaces between their sides and opposite ends, and the outer box 15. WVithin these smaller boxes 16 and 17, I provide the bridge pieces 18 for the purpose hereinafter to be described. Adapted to fit the other slide case 10, I provide the slide box 19, open at the top and provided with longitudinally extending partitions on either side, preferably made by inserting a smaller box 20' within the box19 as clearly shown in Fig. 6. Withmthis smaller box 20, is provided a card or" board 21 for the purpose hereinafter to be described. The suspenders 22 are folded about the card or board 21, and as then placed within the receptacle or inner box 20, the card 21 with the suspenders thereon making a neat fit therein. The slide box 19, with the suspenders so placed, is then. inserted in the slide case 10, with the buckle portion of the suspenders showing through the display opening 14, as clearly indicated in Figs. 2 and 3. It will be noted that a single flat card or board 21 is sufficient to maintain the suspenders in the proper position, since a large portion of the suspenders is folded back of the card 21, that is, between the card 21 and the bottom of box 20, so that the front portion of the suspenders is nearly flush with the top of the box 20, and close to the surrounding surface of display opening 14:. V y
The boxes or compartments 16 and 17 are each provided with a bridge shaped structure 18, made by bendingthe longitudinal sides at right angles with the main extension of a flat piece of pasteboard or other suitable material. This bridge member 18 is made to fit neatly in said compartments 16 and 17. Around the bridge member 18 of compartment 16 are placed two armbands 23. These armbands being of lighter material than the suspenders would ordinarily lie far beneath the surrounding surface of dlsplay aperture 12. By means of the bridge structure 18, the armbands are kept approximately flush with surface surrounding the aperture 12. In a similar way the bridge shaped member 18 in compartment 17, supports a pair of garters indlcated by the numeral 24; the garters being in a simi- FERDINAND SCI-IOETTLE, OF GERMANTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO PIONEER maintain theirpositions on their respective V supporting structures, that is to say, the
two cases 9 and 10 may be brought'together,
as shown in Fig. 1, and the box with its contents can thus be transported, or stored with perfect safety thereto. When the same reaches the retailer the box may be opened into the position preferably shown in Fig. 2, and placed in that position upon the counter, on the showcase or window of the dealer. The advantage of placing the box in the position shown in Fig. 2, for display, is because of the very small space taken thereby upon the counter or the floor of the showcase or window, and the ease with which the box may be picked up and examined and replaced. Of course, where desirable, the box may-be laid fiat open, as shown in Fig. 3, that is, without pulling out the slide box which in Fig. 3 is shown partly withdrawn simply to indicate the manner pioneer of removing the contents. Another advantage of the structure above described is that the two slide cases being hinged together and apertured on adjacent faces serve to open and close each other. By this means the usual box'lid is dispensed with.
What I claim is 1 1. The combination of a plurality of slide cases hinged together so that one case will.
fold upon another, the faces which fold upon each other being provided with display openings so that when these slide-cases are folded together these openings are closed, containers fitting in said slide cases for containing articles in suitable position for display with respect to said display openings.
2. The combination of a plurality of slide cases hinged together so that one case w1ll fold upon another, the faces which fold upon each otherbeing provided with display openings so that when these slide cams are folded together the said openings are closed, containers fitting in said slide cases and means provided therein for supporting and maintaining articles in suitable position for display with respect to said display openings.
