Be it known that I, PETER R. WARREN, a

citizen of 'the United States, residing at Lowell, 'county'of Middlesex, State of Massa'chusetts, have invented a 4certain new and useful Improvement in Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

Mylinvention has forits objecta box provided with a sight opening through which the contents of the boxis visible and which is closed by a sheet of transparent material such as gelatin, transparent Celluloid, micaor the 1ike. These boxes are particularly adapted for use in-cases where it is desired that the prospective, purchaser shall have the opportunity of seeing the goods, but

-where it is desired to protect the goods fr onr dirt and moisture. The package embodylng my invention is particularly adaptedjfor use in connection with the sale of confectionery, lozenges, and-medicines which it is desired shall be visible to the purchaser but shall also be protected so that the urchaser cannot injure the goods by handllng them; VMy improved box is,however, not limited to these uses. In boxes of this kind as heretofore constructed, great diiculty has been experienced because of the tendency of the transparent material, particularly where gelatin is used, to curl, which makes it dithcult to keep the transparent material' in place while the contents of the box is being put in place and also beca-use the contents of the box is not properly protected if the transparent material is allowed to curl as it then draws away from the remainder of the box and leaves an opening through which dust may enter. The box embodying my present invention does away with these diiliculties. It is so constructed that the transparent material may be readily and securely put in place, and when once put in place, is held so that it cannot become displaced without destroying the remainder of the box. As the transparent material lies between two of the layers of card board forming the box, it cannot curl at all and lconsequently the box is always tight pandv no dust can enter. A box embodying my invention is no more expensive to construct than are the boxes which have heretofore been ordinarily employed for these purposes.

While I have shown in the accompanying drawings my invent-ion embodied 1n a socalled folding box because that is the form inwhich I have put my invention into actual practice, it is obvious that it may be emodied in boxes of other 'form such for instance as the well known solid ox.

The Ainvention will be fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying draw-4 ings, and the novel features are pointed out andclearly defined in the claims at the close of the specification. v

In the drawings,-Figure 1 is a plan View of a blank which, when folded and supplied with a sheet of transparent material, forms a box embodying my present invention'. Fig. 2 shows the sheet of transparent material. y Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the blank shown ,in Fig. 1 partly folded and the sheet of transparent material shown in Fig. 2 in place. Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the .nished box embodying my invention.

Referring to the drawings, there is shown -portion A, an inside top portion B and an outside top portion C as well as such ends D and tucks E as may be required. In the outside top portion is cut a sight opening F of the des1red size and in the inside top portion is out another sight opening G which is of a size slightly greater than that of the sight yopening F so that when the two parts are in registration with each other, the inner layer of card board B will not be revealed to a person looking through the sight opening F. The relative posit-ion of the two sight openings will plainly be seen in Fig. 4.

In one or the other of the portions of the blank containing the two sight openings are cut slits H, H, of curved shape into which the edges of: the sheet of transparent material K, see Fig. 2, are inserted as seen in Fig. 8. These slits may be of any desired form or arran ement and may or ma not form tabs as s own in Fig. 1. I pre er to cut them in the insideto' portion B as therefore to be held flat so that it cannot I curl, bend or fall out. It will also be seen that it cannot be slid out endwise being held from moyement in this direction by the slits H, H. With boxes as thus constructed no difficulty is experienced on account of the tendency of the transparent material to curl or get out4 of place and the contents of the box are as completely protected from dust as if contained 1n a box which had no sight opening.

What I claim is: v

1. The improved folding box comprising a blank of card board, having two portions thereof lying vthe one against the other, each of said portions having a sight opening therein in registration with each other, one of said two portions of the blankhaving slits therein and a sheet of transparent material between said two ortions of the blank having some of its e ges located in said slits.

2. The improved folding box comprising a blank of card board, having two portions thereof lying the one against the other and secured together, each of said two portions having a sight opening therein in registration with each other, the sight opening in the outer of the said two portionsbein the smaller, vone of said two portions o the blank vhaving slits therein ,and a sheet of transparent material between said two ortions of the blank having some of its e ges.

A pasteboard box having a display opening in one wall and an apertured fold of the box blank lyinginside of and adjacent to said wall with said opening and aperturein register, said fold along an edge having aflap resting along its edge on the box wall opiposite that equipped with said opening an actin toretaln. said fold in substantially para] el relation with and in juxtaposition tosaid iirst wall, whereby a sheet of transparent medium may be interposed between said fold and wall and be eld kin proper relation to the opening of the latter to constitute a window said medium being maintained in such osition by the wall and fold on op osite lsldes thereof.

4. A pasteboard box having a display opening in one wall and anv apertured fold of the box blank lying inside of and adjacent to said wall with said opening and said aperture in register, said fold alon an edge having a ila lying adjacent the si e wall of the box and) actin to retain said fold in substantially para el relation with and in juxtaposition to said first wall whereby. a sheet of transparent medium may be inter'- posed between said fold and wall and-be held in proper relation to the opening of the latter to constitute a window.
