Be it known that I, ERNEST T. GowrNG, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at W atertown, in the county of J efferson and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Paper Boxes or Cartons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to paper boxes or cartons, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a folding spout for discharging the contents of the box or carton.
Another object of the invention is to provide a cardboard box or carton with a folding spout secured over a hole or aperture in the close the hole or aperture and to be readily extended to form a spout through which the contents of the box or carton may be discharged without waste.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,-

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a paper box or carton of any suitable sizeer shape, and at one end of said box or carton is an opening 2 through which the is a spout comprlsing a base 3 of cardboard or similar material, said base being wider at its bottom 4 and narrower at its outer end 5. Usually in boxes containing cereals, breakfast foods and other granular materials, a coupon of some character is placed within the box, and by using my spout the coupon may be inserted within the spout and securely held in place without being Inserted-m the body of materials within the box.
My invention is simple in construction, can be quickly connected to the underside of a box or carton, serves to cover the opening in the box and can be quickly extendedfor use as a spout for discharging the contents of the box.
I claim :l
A box or carton provided with an opening and a slot above said opening, a spout comprising a base of greater width at its innerend than at its outer end, said spout being provided with foldable sides, and a tongue at its outer end to engage said slot, said sides being extended underneath the base and se cured at opposite sides of the opening in the box or carton, said sides being crimped to be folded close to said opening against the box or carton and to be opened to facilitate the discharge of the contents of the box or carton.
