NECKIIE-PACKAGE.
Application filed October 7, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY BROWN, of New York city, in the county of New York,
and in the State of New York, have inventplay neckties to advantage; that it shall be capable of being readily opened and closed so as to display the neckties or to be laid away, thus enabling neckties to be kept in the package in closed condition and yet readily displayed, temporarily, when occasion offers; and that it shall be capable of standing in an upright position without other aid than its own parts. And to such ends my invention consists in the package for neckties hereinafter specified.
In the accompanying drawingsFigure 1 is a front elevation of a package for neckties embodying my invention, the package being open; Fig. 2 is a plan view of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of such package in a closed position, taken on a plane just above the neckties.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated that embodiment which is the best embodiment of my invention known to me, but such embodiment is to be regarded as typical only of many possible embodiments, and my invention is not to be limited thereto.
In the illustrated embodiment I provide a box consisting of a body 1 and a cover 2 which are hinged together and are preferably shallow but have a length equal to the length of a necktie when in condition for display. All that is really essential of the box for my purposes is the two principal boards of the box and cover hinged together. In the illustrated embodiment I have shown a necktie support connecting the free edges of the box and cover, such support in the present instance consisting of a piece of cardboard having leaves 3 and 4 of substantially the same width as the principal sheets of the box and cover, said leaves being preferably connected by and integral with a Specification of Letters Patent.

strip 5 between them, and said leaves being hinged to the box and cover preferably at a point removed from their principal boards, as, for instance,,by being formed integral with strips 6 and 7, which are fastened to the box and cover, respectively, in any deslred manner. The neckties 8, which, in the present instance, are shown as four-in-hand neckties, are hung over one edge of the leaves 3 or 4, which edges are made to come sufficiently within or below the top edge or side of the box and cover to leave room for the V neckties to extend over the said edges without extending beyond the outlines of the box. A form of fastening device 9 may beused, if desired, to fasten the cover and box together.
In the use of my package for the purpose of selling neckties, the necktieshaving been placed over the upper edges of the leaves 3 and 4, the package can be closed by springing the said leaves inward against the hinge of the box and then closing the box, and in this condition the package may be used for shipping the neckties or for storing them, as upon the shelves of a store. When it is wished to display the neckties it is only necessary to open the box, when all the neckties contained therein can be instantly seen. The box can be stood upon edge on a counter to permanently display the neckties, and if desired the leaves 3 and 4 can be moved to the outward position shown in Fig. 2, thus making an effective display of the neckties.
The convenience with which my package can be opened and closed makes it possible to keep a large supply of neckties in the closed packages on shelves and protected from dust, and yet to display neckties in any number of such packages successively,
or at the same time, with a very little trouble to an individual customer. My necktie package can also be conveniently used by the individual in his dwelling as a means of keeping his neckties in an orderly condition,
said leaves, said connection being in the form of a strip narrow, but of substantial Width and having each edge connected to being of substantially the same size as the 10 one of said leaves. adjacent box section.
2. A package for neckties consisting of a In testimony that I claim the foregoing 1 box and cover, a leaf hinged to the outer have hereunto set my hand. edge of said box, a leaf hinged to the outer edge of said cover, and a connection between HARRY BROWN. said leaves said leaves having edges near to Witnesses:
but spaced away from the adjacent ends of L. BRODERIOK,
the boX and cover respectively, said leaves V. G. LLOYD.
