COUNTER DISPLAY-BOX.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 611,063, dated September 20, 1898. Application led Novemher 22, 1897. Serial No. 659,404. (No model.)

To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CLARENCE E. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Counter Display- Boxes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon,wl1ich form a part of this specification.

My invention is especially intended for use on counters or in show-windows, is made of stiff pasteboard or other light material, and is preferably oblong, having a height of about one foot, a width of about eight inches, and a depth backward of about three and one-half inches. It consists of a plain back, suitable for advertising or ornamentation on the inside, and carrying a lid and two wings in which to pack or display confections, druggistssundries, such as cough-drops in boxes, and similar articles either in small packages or in bulk, the whole invention forming when closed a neat and compact box for protecting the goods from dust and for storing or ship- Ing.

I attain my object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure l is a perspective View of the invention. Fig. 2 is a ltransverse sectional view at line X X, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the box when closed.

In my invention, A is the back, on which may be printed an attractive advertisement calling attention to the contents of the box or which may be ornamented in any mannerl goods) should require a solid front, mica may be inserted in said openings. Wings B B are square and each just half the width of Aand each hinged at a front corner to side edge of A by means of a cloth strip D or other suitable material. Being hinged at their fronts, said wings B B may be swung entirely back of A, leaving display-fronts C C facing in opposite directions, or they may be swun-g at any intermediate angle, thus permitting the display of their contents to persons who may be in front or at the sides of said counter display-box or who may be in any direction except in a line directly in the rear.

E is a lid attached to the top edge of A by hinge J, also of cloth or other suitable material.y This lid is'hinged less loosely than wings B B, thereby preventing said lid dropping farther back than as shown in Fig. 1.

When the displaybox is closed for shipping, storage, or other purpose, as shown in Fig. 3, the fronts of Wings C C rest iiatly against the face of A, and lid E covers the open tops of B B. The rim K on said lid fits closely around the outer sides of B B at tops and holds the parts of the display-box packed snugly and securely together.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a counter display-box, in a combination, a heavy card or pasteboard back the face of which is suitable for advertising or ornamentation, two square open-top boxes or wings with open faces to permit display of goods, and a lid with rim, and strips attaching said wings and lid to said back, said lid and its rim when box is closed binding the parts securely together, substantially as set forth and for the purpose speciiied.
