T all wiz/0m t may concern.-Y
Be it known that LCALvIN S. MORRIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Folding Sample-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to improvements in folding sample-eases; and the object is to provide a folding case in which samples of various and divers kinds of goods may be packed and as desired displayed and examined without removal from the apartments or cases of the device.
The invention will be hereinafter fully described and the novelty thereof particularly `pointed out and distinctly claimed.
I have fully and clearly illustrated theim'- provements in the accompanying drawings,
` wherein- Figure l is a perspective View of the case closed. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the Fig. 3 is a percase opened into twoparts. spective view of the case open and the extra cases or trays turned out and supported by their hinges. Fig. et is a cross-section of one of the extra cases or trays.
Referring to the drawings, A B designate v'the respective halves or parts of the main case, consisting of rectangular boxes suitably hinged together at the upper edges of their inner walls or sides, as at l. The hinges may be of metal or of flexible material secured by cementation to the adjacent walls of the boxes. These boxes are of such dimensions and capacity as may be desired and may be made of wood, leather, canvas, or any other materialsuitable to such constructions. The boxes lnay be provided with continuous vertical iianges 2, extending around the ends and front of one of them to engage and lap over the edges of the companion box. The boxes A B may be held closed by any proper keeper 3 3, and a lock 4E may be provided and alsoa handle 5,by which the case may be carried.
To each half 'of the main case, to the outer side Walls thereof, is hinged a sample-display box or tray 6 7, the hingedconnections being of such style that the boxes may be turned out and stand suspended in horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. In the instance illustrated in the drawings the hinges consist of flexible strips 8, having their lower portions cemented to the inner faces ofthe outer walls of the main boxes and their upper portions cemented to the outer faces of the display-boxes. The boxes or trays 6 7 consist of rectangular frames, having a partition 9 arranged and secured midway of the height of the frame, as shown in Fig.V 4 of the drawings, so that they serve as covers for the main boxes without materially decreasing the capacity thereof and when closed constitute a third apartment intermediate of the main boxes and when turned back may serve as exhibit-boxes, as also when in the position in the open halves of the main boxes, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the draw* ings. It will thus be perceived that the boxes or trays G 7 in their position within the main boxes and closed may be utilized forpacking and carrying any articles or goods desired. To keep the boxes from sagging or moving too far down in the main boxes when arranged therein, studs, as l0, are placed in the bottom of the main boxes, which the edges of the other boxes rest on or lodge against when the case is closed, or in the position seen in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Tabs ll are on the boxes or trays 6 and 7, by which they may be lifted and turned out when desired. It will be perceived by the foregoing description, and reference being had to the drawings in connection therewith, that the case is composed of three compartments, within which the contents are placed, and that the trays may be attached to any ordinary opening case, and immediately on opening the case one-third or middle portion of the contents is displayed. The other two-thirds may then be displayedbne at a time or both at a timeby turning the trays back into the position seen in Fig. 3 of the drawings. Ithus provide increased display-room, and instead of but two apartments, as in ordinary cases, I furnish three containing-compartments and four display-trays. The case may be utilized both for shipment and for display and is eminently useful for containing candies, crackers, samples of groceries, and many other articles of merchandise. It may also'be utilized for containing clothing.
Having described my invention, what I claim ism A folding sample-case, comprising two main IOS trays hinged togetherandadapted to close totrays and form a central compartment be-` 1o gether on their free edges, and two additional tween the folded main trays.
trays hinged respectively to the outer sides of In testimony whereof I affix my signature the main trays to stand in horizontal position in presence of two Witnesses.
when turned outward, and bottoms 1n the l CALVIN S. MORRIS.
' additional trays fixed intermediate of the! heights of their side and end walls, whereby Witnesses: when the additional trays are brought to- ED H. KELKMAN, gether they constitute covers for the main C. L. KLEINSOHMIDT.
