Description

No. 623,594. Patented Apr. 25, I899.
A. H. BURT.
DISPLAY PACKAGE.
(Application filed on. 13, 1897.)
(No Model.)
FFXCE" 1 A'IENT ALFRED II. BURT, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
DISPLAY-PACKAG E- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 623,594, dated April 25, 1899. Application filed October 13, 1897. Serial No. 655,009. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALFRED H. BURT, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Packages, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description. Y
My invention relates to display-packages, and more particularly packages or receptacles for holding individual packages for the purpose of displaying individual packages. Display-packages of this kind as they are commonly set out upon counters and showcases should be so constructed as to have a firm base, an inviting appearance, and so constructed that the individ ual packages may be readily removed, and so that it may be readily refilled from time to time. It is also necessary that such a package should be both simple and cheap in construction and of a rectangular form, with plane faces to render it easily packed and shipped full of packages. The device which I haveshown in the drawings and which I shall hereinafter describe is designed, primarily, for holding individual packages which are rectangular in form; but it is evident that the packages may be used to hold individual packages which are cylindrical or of analogous shape.
Referring to the drawings herewith, consisting of one sheet, in which like letters refer to like parts, Figure I is a perspective view of my invention having four sides or magazines. Fig. II is a similar View showing a two-sided package or two magazines. Fig. III is a horizontal cross-section of Fig. I. Fig. IV is a detail perspective view of one of the sections of which the package is constructed.
. Referring to Figs. III and IV, A is the back or body of one of the sections. B are the longitudinal sides. D is the bottom, and O are the face flanges or strips. These sections of which the package is made up are identical in form and size and are placed together as clearly shown in Fig. III.
the package is four-sided, as there shown, the sides B of one pair of the sections are abutting against the backs A of the other pair, so that the face-flanges O are flush and parallel with the sides B of the other pair, as shown at C6.
In a four-sided package, as shown in Figs.
In the case where.
I and III, a rectangular central opening is left, as shown at E. By closing this opening at the bottom and by putting a removable cover upon the top a magazine is provided which will hold an extra supply of the individual packages,.since the breadth of this magazine is equal to the length of the individual package held in the display-package, and in most constructions the space is such that it will hold two or more of the individual packages side by side.
When the sections are glued together, they are usually covered, as is customary in the construction of boxes, with a finishing surface-paper, and thus where the sides B and the flanges 0 come together in a parallel plane they will present a somewhat broad and smooth surface, which may be utilized for ornamentation or for advertisement of the articles contained.
In Fig. II, I have shown a modified form of my invention having but two display sides. A back F is put on and the package becomes substantially triangular-shaped in cross-section. This construction or a construction with three display sides may be employed.
Having thus described my invention and Without limiting myself to the particular con struction shown, what I claim is l. A display package composed of four sections, each section having a back, sides, and face-flanges parallel to said back, and so united in pairs that the sides of one pair of sections abut against the backs of the other pair of sections with their faces in the planes of the sidesof the adjacent sections, substan-' tially as set forth.
2. A four-sided display-package consisting of sections identical in construction, each section composed of a back, sides, and face-flanges parallel with the back, arranged in pairs,.the one pair having their sides abutting, and secured to, the backs ofthe other pair, with their face-flanges in the planes of thesides of the other pair, and a bottom secured to said sections, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the invention above set forth I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALFRED H. BURT.
