Be it known that I, Mosns BLUMBERe, a

citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display- Boxes, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof. EFMy invention relates to improvements in display-boxes; and the object of my invention is to provide a simple inexpensive folding box which receives and retains in display form small articles, such as lace, ribbon, or like goods that is wound upon cards or bobbins.

A further object of my invention is to provide a display-box with means whereby when the box is opened the bolts of lace or ribbon will be maintained in uniform upright positions, where they may be readily inspected or removed.

A further object of my invention is to provide the partitions or supporting-frames that maintain the bolts of lace or ribboninupright positions with a sample-display frame on which a sample of the lace may be readily positioned.

To the above purposes my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a displaybox of my improved construction. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the partitions or frames made use of in carrying out my invention. Fig. 5 is an enlarged vertical section taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4, and Fig. 6 is a detail section illustrating a modified form of attaching the feet of the partition-frame to the base of the box.

Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings, 1 indicates the bottom of my improved box, which is preferably formed of a single piece of material of some thickness, and secured to the ends thereof are the rectangular pieces 2, of heavy cardboard or analogous material, which form the ends of the display-boxes. Hinged to the rear edge of the bottom 1 is a back 3, and hinged to the upper edge thereof is the top 4. The top and back are preferably constructed of heavy cardboard or similar material, and integral with and projecting downwardly from the front edge of the top 41 is an overhanging flap 5. Hinged to the front edge of the bottom 1 is the box front 6, the upper edge of which is adapted to engage beneath the flap 5 when the box is closed. Fixed on top of the bottom 1 and extending longitudinally thereon is a pair ofparallel strips 7, having beveled outer faces. In some instances these strips 7 are dispensed with, and dovetailed grooves 8 are formed in the bottom 1.

The supporting frames or partitions 9 made use of in my improved box are preferably constructed of single lengths of resilient wire each bent into inverted-U shape and their lower ends being curved inwardly a slight distance, as indicated by 10, and integral with the lower ends of the inwardly-bent portions are the short straight bars 11, that form feet for the frames or partitions. When these partitions are positioned in the box, these feet 11 engage beneath the beveled edges of the strips 7 or engage in the dovetail grooves 8, and thus said partitions are maintained in vertical planes and are adapted to be readily shifted longitudinally. The re siliency of the wire of each frame allows its lower ends to be sprung slightly apart in order to position the feet 11 beneath the strips or in the grooves.

Formed on or fixed to one side of each frame or partition is a small rectangular frame 12, formed of Wire or analogous material, and hinged to the outer vertical bar thereof is a plate 13, the top and bottom edges of which lie very close to the top and bottom rails of the frame 12. This plate 13 is preferablycolored and is intended to receive a sample, such as 14, of the lace or ribbon that is supported by the frame or partition on which said plate is carried, and to position this sample upon the plate it is swung outwardly away from the top and bottom rails of the frame 12, and the sample of lace or ribbon is placed on the face of said plate, after which said plate is swung into a closed position, and this binds the ends of the sample of goods between the ends of the plate and the top and bottom rails of the frame 12.

The cards or bobbins containing the lace or ribbon are arranged in upright positions between the frames or partitions 9, sa d -tion frames being readily adjusted longitudinally or removed and inserted when arranging the stock of goods in the box.

l Vhen the box is closed, the stock of goods therein is kept clean and protected from the dust, and when it is desired to show or display the contents of the box the top 4 and sides 3 and 6 may be readily unfolded into positions seen by dotted lines in Fig. 2 in order to clearly display the contents of the box.

A display-box of my improved construcis very simple in construction, is easily handled, maintains the goods in a neat and attractive position, and the various cards or packages of goods are very readily removed from or replaced in position in said box.

I claim 1. The-combination with a base, of a series of inverted-U-shaped frames adjustably arranged on said base, auxiliary frames integral with one side of each adjustable frame, and plates hinged in the auxiliary frames; substantially as specified.

2. The combination with a folding displaybox, of a series of inverted-Ushaped frames longitudinally adjustable on the base of the box, an auxiliary rectangular frame integral with each of the adjustable frames, and a plate hinged in each of the auxiliary frames, substantially as specified.

3. A display-box, constructed with a base, folding walls secured thereto, a pair of strips arranged longitudinally on top of the base, a series of inverted-U-shaped frames having their lower ends loosely engaged beneath the strips, a rectangular frame integral with one side of each of the first-mentioned frames, and a plate hinged in each of the rectangular frames substantially as specified.
