APPLICATION FILED APR.14, 1913.

SHOVWCASE CUNSTRUCTION.
To all whom it may concern lie it known that 1, MAX A. SHALL, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York city, in the county and State of llew York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Show-Case Construction, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in the construction of show cases and particularly to that class of such cases, which are portable and conveniently placed on the sales counters in stores, for the display of special merchandise and which also provide convenient means to advertise and explain the merchandise they contain.
The objects of my il'nprovenient are, to provide a show case which is light in weight, of rigid and strong construction and provides means to store assorted merchandise in systematic manner. I attain these objects by means of the devices and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, made part of these specifications, in which Figure l is an isometric view of my show case construction, showing its front and right side the panel of the right side wall is removed to show the interior. Fig. H is an isometric view of the same case, showing its rear and right side, the panel of the right side is removed and the door opened, to show the interior of the case. Fig. HI shows an isometric view of the bottom, front and part of one side of the show case with the gage board, during the process of assembling the case. Portions of the base are cut away to show the construction. Fig. IV shows a detail of the frame construction for a side wall of the show case in front elevation. Fig. l is a sectional side elevation of Fig. IV. Vii is a detail showing a horizontal section through bottom plate 9 and one of the rubber buffers attached. to it. Fig. VII is a detail showing a horizontal section through one of the partitions 12.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the various views.
lvly show case is preferably constructed as follows: The slanting front 1, sides 2, 8, and door t consist of frames or sections separately made from metal channels 5 of ti shape as shown in Fig. IV and Fig. V. These channels 5 surround panels 6 which Specification of Letters Patent.

consist of any suitable material as glass, wood pasteboard etc. l he corners of these channel-frames are formed by cutting and initering the two hing sides of channel and leaving); the short side intact as shown at T Fig. 1V.
'lhe roof section 8 is made from a rec tangnlar piece of sheet metal by bending three of its sides into channel. shape and thereby forming a frame, similar to the side sections and capable of holding a sheet panel 6.
The bottom section 9 is made of a rectangular plate whose edges 9, S), 9 are bent upward as shown in i 'lo bottom 9 I have attached the gage bijian 1.0 which consists of a ri-ictangular plate whose lower part is bent at right angles toward the front of the show case and forms the vertical plate 11.. The edges of plates .10 and 11 adjacent to the sides of the show case are flanged outward at 10 and 11 to add stillness to the gage board.
The show case is preferably assembled (see Fig. V) by soldering or fastening in other suitable manner the frames of sides 2 and 8, and plate 11 of the ga e board, to bottom plate 9. The lower edge of front plate 1 is fastened to the upturned front edge 9 of bottom plate 9 and the upper edge of the front plate 1, to the corresponding upper edge of plate 10. The roof section 8 is fastened along three of its edges to sections 1, 2, and 3 (see Figs. it and ill). The door lis attached to section 2 by means of suitable hinges.
in the interior of the show case l have provided suitable vertical partitions 12 which consist of sheet metal strips of suitable width with longitudinally flanged edges and are connected to sections 8 and 9 by means of their bent portions ii. The lower side of bottom section 9 is provided near each of its four corners with suitable rubber buffers 13 which I have attached to the sheet metal by a tubular rivet 14: as shown in Fig. V;
in practice the front section 1 generally provided with a glass panel under which an advert-isen'ient is framed.
.lhe inner side of door l is preferably provided with directions for the sale of the merchandise contained in the show case which are printed on an opaque panel. of cardboard or the like. The packages of merchandise D and. E F H) are stored in vertical rows between the partitions 12, which are spaced to suit the size of these packages, and each row may contain a different kind or grade, of such merchandise as indicated by the letters D and E. The gage board 10 serves the useful purpose to keep the ends of the packages in parallel vertical planes. The front section 1 in this class of show cases, is generally placed in slanting position to afford an easier reading of the advertisement and to provide a broader base to the case and by this position does not permit the storing of merchandise in vertical rows; for this purpose I have provided the gage board 10 hich adjusts the packages in desired vertical position and also adds greatly to the strength of the whole case. Another advantage is to be found in the complete framing provided for the advertisements contained in the front section 1 and door 4. These advertisements can only be removed by destroying the whole case. It is the practice of unscrupulous dealers to replace these advertisements with those of inferior goods, which are substituted in the show case. This practice is obviated by my improved construction. The rubber buffers which are solidly attached to the base of the show case prevent noise in moving the case about and injury to the sales counter, by the metal of the showcase. It is also of great advantage, that an accurate account of each kind of goods contained in the case, may be taken at a glance and the selling facilitated, by the orderly manner of storage.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-- ters Patent is:
1. In a show case of the class described the combination with a rectangular base or bottom section of sheet metal, provided with flanges along its edges, a slanted front side fastened to one of said flanges, two vertical sides fastened to the front side and to flanges of the base, a door opposite said front side, each of said sides consisting of a panel board surrounded by a frame made of U shaped channels, a roof panel similarly held by U shaped channels and provided with a metallic backing toward the interior of the show case and fastened to the upper edges of three sides of the show case and a vertical gage board in said show case forming a parallel plane to the door opening of the show case.
. 2. In a show case of the class described the combination with a rectangular base of sheet metal a slanting front side fastened to said base, two vertical sides, fastened to the base and to the front side, a door opposite the front side, each vertical side of the show case consisting of a )anel board surrounded by a frame of U shaped channels, a roof panel similarly held by such channels and provided with a metallic backing toward the interior of the show case and fastened to the upper edges of three sides of the show case, a vertical gage board so placed into the interior of said show case, as to form a parallel plane to the plane of the door opening of the show case and a plurality of vertical partitions so placed in the interior of the show case as to form planes perpendicular to the plane of the door opening and fastened to the base androof sections of the show case, by horizontal flanges formed on said partitions.
3. In a show case of the class described, the combination with a rectangular base or bottom section, of a slanted front side, two vertical sides and a roof section, a door opposite said front side, all of said sides formed by a frame, holding a panel of suitable material, a vertical gage board in said show case forming a parallel plane to the plane of the door opening of the show case, a horizontal projection on the lower edge of said gage board, extending to the front side ofthe show case, to space the gage board correctly from said front side.
