permitting shoulder suspension to be employed if desired. 7
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved suspender whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention-may be the better understood I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein A Figure 1 is a view in perspective illustrating a suspender constructed in accordance with .an embodiment of'my invention and unapplied;
Figure 2 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in section illustrating my improved suspender in applied or working position' Figure 3 is a View partly in side elevation and partly in section illustrating a coupling means-herein disclosed between thetrouser member and shirt member as herein set forth;
Figure 4 is an elevational view of one of the sections comprised in the shirt member;
Figure 5 is an elevationalview of the second section comprised in the shirt member;
Figure 6 is an elevational view of the trouser member.
My improved suspender, as herein disclosed, comprises two members A and B, the member A being adapted for attachment to the skirt portion of a shirt and the member B to the trousers at the waist portion.
The member A comprises two sections 1 and 2. The section 1 constitutes a plate of requisite dimensions having one marginal portion provided thereacross with an out,- standing flange 3 and the opposite end portion with the transversely spaced flanges 4. Between the flanges 4: the section 1 is provided with an outstanding arm 5 coplanar to the section or plate 1 and provided in its outer or free end portion with a button 6 whereby the tab of a conventional shoulder suspender may be engaged. This button 6 is carried in spaced relation to the arm 5 by a shank 7, said shank being disposed in the same general direction as the flanges 3 and l'here'inbefore referred to. i a
The section 1 is adapted to overlie from within at a desired point the tail or skirt portion of a shirt and the section 2 coacts therewith outwardly of the shirt to effect a firm clamping of the section 1 to the garment.
This section 2 comprises a plate of requisite dimensions provided across its end portions with the flanges 8 which coact with the flanges 3 and 4; to effectively clamp the garment therebetween as is particularly illustrated in Figure2. The section 2 at substantially its axial center is provided with an opening 9 and overlying said opening 9 and extending in the same general direction as the flanges 8 is a socket member 10, said member 10 being of such dimensions as to be readily accommodated between the app-lied coacting sections 1 I and 2 as illustrated in Figure 2. a
The member B comprises a plate 11 adapted to be stitched or otherwise secured to the waist portion of the trousers T or kindred garment and at its axial center this plate 11 is provided with an outstanding resilient 1 head 12 which is adapted to be inserted through the opening 9 with resultant expansion in the socket 10 to effect a secure coupling or connection between the members A and B whereby the trousers may be readily 7 9'0 suspended from the shirt.
It is to be understood that as many of myv improved suspenders may be employed as preferred. a
The member A may be held tothe shirt S during a wearing period and should be applied to the shirt at a position to assure 'suflicient play of the shirt without any undue My improved suspender pulling strain. eliminates the liability of the trousers slipping and the shirt pulling out and also permits a quick and ready engagement or detachment between the shirt and trousers.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a suspender constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by-reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is suscepq tible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not Wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim A suspender comprising in combination two members, one of said members being adapted for clamping engagement with a body garment and the second of said members being adapted for securement to a nether garment, said members being provided with coacting means to effect a coupling therebetween, the first member consisting of two sections, one of said sections having an outstanding arm at one end thereof, said section having flanges at said end at opposite sides of'the arm and another flange extending across the opposite end of the section, the second section having flanges extending across opposite ends thereof, the flanges of one section slipping over the flanges of the second section, said sections being adapted to bearranged at opposite sides of the body garment with portions of said garment clamped between the flanges, said arm being provided with a securing means.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
ADOLF THIES.
