Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RICHARD T. CLARKE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. v

My invention relates to an improvement in garment supporters, the object being to provide means whereby a loop and a button, which are often used together on childrens and females garments, may be permanently fastened together and to a suspender or other garment by a single fastening means, and it consists in the details of construction as will be more fully explained and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a View in elevation of a section of a suspender showing my improvement applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a view in section through the button, supporter and suspender. Fig. 3 is an edge view of the button, the loop and the suspender beinoshown in sect-ion, and Fig. L is a view. of the loop detached.

5 represents a button preferably made of metal and provided on its rear side at its center with a cylindrical tubular shank or projection 6.. This tubular shank is integral with the button and the opening therein is continued through the button so as to provide a passageway for the rivet 7. This tubular shank 6 is cut-away at one side as shown at 8 (Fig. 8), for the passage of the ends of the wire from which the loop 9 is formed. This wire loop is made by bending a wire substantially as shown to receive a button or other garment supporting or holding device and the free ends thereof are bent in the arcs of circles and are housed in the shank 6 of the button 5, the restricted neck of the loop or supporter passing through the hole 8 in the shank of the button. This hole is of a size sufficient to receive the two side members of the wire loop, at the restricted neck portion of the latter,

Copies of this patent may be obtained for but is not suiiciently large to permit of any material movement of the wires in the hole, so that after the parts have been assembled and secured to the suspender end l0, there can be no movement of the button shank sufcient to permit of any separation of these two parts.

The button 5 with the loop 9 assembled therein as above explained is secured to a suspender or other garment 10 by the hollow rivet 7 which latter is passed through the part 10 and button and between the free ends of the loop and upset at its outer end against the face of the button as shown in Fig. 2.

With this construction the loop is permanently attached to the button and cannot be removed except by the destruction of the rivet which secures the button to the garment.

Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:

1. The combination of a button provided with a tubular shank, the latter having an open slot at its side, a wire loop, the free ends of which pass through said slot and terminate within the shank, and a rivet passing through the button and shank and between the members of the loop and securing these parts together.

2. The combination of a button having a hollow tubular shank, the latter having a slot in its side, a wire loop, the free ends of the two side members of which pass through the slot in the shank of the button, and are curved to conform to the curvature of the shank, and a rivet securing the wire loop to the button, the said rivet passing through the button and shank between the curved ends of the loop and through a garment or suspender end and locked by upsetting one end thereof.
