To all whom, it may concern:

. being to provide a novel, simple,'and inexpensive attaching device so arranged that the button-engaging ends Wlll yield with the swinglng motion during the movements of the wearers body. thus not only relieving strain on the suspenders, but relieving pressureon the wearers shoulders.

I will describe suspenders embodying my invention and then point out the novel fea-v tures in the appended claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures. Figure l is a perspective view of a portion of a suspender embodying my invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are face views of the attachingdevice members. Fig. 4 is a section on'the line 4 4: of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5 5 of Fig. 3, and Fig. 6 is a vertical section through the two attaching members. v The attaching device comprises an eye member 10 and a button-carrying member 11. The eye member is suitably attached to a wire loop 12, with which the body strap or web of the suspender engages. The eye in the plate 10 has an enlarged portion 13, through which the head of the button 1 L may pass, and from this enlarged. portion 13 a slot 15 extendsdownward to receive the shank of the button. The button-carrying plate consists of a single length of metal folded to form two members spaced apart. One of the members, here shown as the front member, has an opening 16, through which the shank of the button 14 passes, the inner end of this shank being riveted or otherwise connected to the inner member of the plate; The plate is springyield-- ing, and the opening 16 is somewhat smaller than the head of the button, so as to prevent the two members from being bent apart by accident, and by making the plate of spring yielding material it is obvious that when the plate 10 is passed over the head of the button the said plate will be clamped between the head of the-button and the outer member of the button-carrying plate, thus preventing accidental detachment.

Passing between the members of the button-carrying plate and pivotally connected theretoat its center by a rivet 181s a bar 17. The rivet 18 may be tubular, as indicated in the drawings, or it may be solid. The ends of the bar 17 have rings or eyes19, with which the Suspender-ends 20 are connected. By this construction the bar 17 will readily swing in a vertical plane, permitting the suspenders to yield with the movements of a persons body.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire tosecure by Letters Patent- 1. .In suspenders, an eye-plate adapted to be attached to the main strap orv web, a buta and having means for attaching the suspenderends thereto.

2. In suspenders, an eye-plate adapted to be attached to the main strap or web, a button-carrying plate, a button thereon for engaging in the eye of the eye-plate, means for clamping the plate against thebutton-head, and a bar mounted to swing in a substantially vertical plane on the button-plate, the said bar having means at its ends for attaching the Suspender-ends thereto.
