Description
Aug. 11,` 1931. G. B. GLIDDEN GARTER Filed Deo. 6, 1930 iNVENTQR ATTORNEYS Patented Aug. 11, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT?l OFFICE GEORGE B. GLIDDEN, OF
DIGHTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIG'NOR TO GEORGE FROST COM- PANY, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS GARTER Application filed December 6, 1930. Serial No. 500,620.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in garters of the leg-encircling type, and has for its principal object to provide a single piece pad which is centrally folded to form opposed leaves between which one end ofthe limb encircling band, the hose supporting means, and a part of one of the band fastening means is disposed; whereby an extremely simple `and practical garter is constructed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a garter constructed in accordance with my invention;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary plan view of the reverse side of the pad end of the garter;
Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a plan view of the blank from which the pad is formed;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the eye member which forms a part of the band connecting means, and
Figure 6 is a modified form showing another means of attaching the eye member to the pad.
Referring to the drawings, my invention includes a pad A, a leg-encircling band B, connecting members C and D for the band, and a hose supporting means E.
The pad A is preferably formed from a single blank of leather as shown in Figure 4. This blank is folded centrally between its ends, as indicated by the dotted line 5 in Figure 4, to form resultant opposed leaves 6-6. The ends 2L-7 of the leaves 6-6 opposite the fold line 5 are disposed in register and in a plane at an angle to saidfold line.
The leg-encircling band B has one end inserted between the leaves 6-6 of the pad. The connecting element C is attached to the freeend of the band and includes a hook 8. The connecting member D includes an open frame 9 which includes parallel bars 10-1O and an intermediate bar 1l which is formed into an eye l2.l The side bars 10-10 are positioned between the leaves 6-6 of the pad and the intermediate bar l1, together with the eye 12, is positioned exteriorly of the pad as shown in Figure l.
50 The hose supporting devices E include a that I have button support 13, a cooperating clasp 14 and a hanger 15, the latter being folded into a loop having its free ends disposed between the leaves 6-6 of the pad.
A single line of stitches 16 is formed in substantially triangular shape and serves to connect the anchoring end of the band B, the hanger E and both leaves 6 6 together. One leg 17 of the triangular line of stitches extends parallel to the inner bar 10 of the connecting device D and functions to hold said device against the folded edge 5 of the p From the foregoing it will be observed provided a garter of the leg-encircling type which is composed of but very few members, is, therefore, very simple in construction andsis cheap to manufacture. It will also be observed that by means of the pad A the connecting device D, which is of metal, is easily assembled, is firmly retained in place and is maintained against direct contact with the leg of the wearer.
In the modified form shown in Figure 6 I have attached a connecting member Z directly to the outer face of one of the leaves 6 of the pad A by means of stitches 18, said member Z being provided with an eye 19 for c0- operation with the hook 8.
I claim as my invention:
In a garter, the combination with a pad formed of a single piece of material centrally folded to form resultant opposed leaves; hose supporting means including a leg-encirclingband and a hanger disposed between the leaves of the pad; the leaves of the pad, band and hanger being secured together by stitches; and band fastening means comprising a hook member and an eye member, one of said members being attached to the free end of the band, the other member including a rectangular frame disposed within the leaves of the pad between the fold line and the anchored end of the band, and an int-ermediate cross bar disposed exteriorly of the pad and forming the connecting element of the member.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto y subscribed my name.
GEORGE B. GLIDDEN.
