UNDERGARMENT RETAINING DEVICE.
Application filed April 22, 1924. Serial No. 708,311.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CORNELIA J. HUNT, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county 6 of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in an Undergarn'ient Retaining Device, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to adevice for retaining shoulder straps of womens under garments in position upon the shoulder.
An object of my invention is to provide a simple and efiicient device for the purpose stated.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device that is readily interchangeable.
These and other objects are attained by the means described herein, and disclosed in the accompanying drawings, in whicl .9 Fig. 1 is a fragmental view of a device embodying my invention applied to a garment.
Fig. 2 is a view of a device embodying my invention showing the device in the extended form.
Fig. 3 is a view of the device shown in Fig. 2 showing same in a folded, contracted, or o erative position.
T 1e device of my invention comprises an elongated strip 10,'preferably of some flexiblc material, such as tape, provided at its one end 11 with an element 12 of a snap fastener or snap button adapted to engage the complementary fastening device 13 car- 85 ried by the strip 10 intermediate its ends,
and near the center of the strip 10. Theend'14 of the strip 10 is provided with a. pair of apertures 15 and 16 that are preferably stitched about their edges so as to reclude ravelling of the material comprismg the strip 10. An attachment means 17, for example as shown herein, a safety pin,
is adapted to be projected through the apertures l5 and 16 and to secure the strip 10 upon the inner surface of a garment 18. 4 The garment 18 is in the nature of a shirt waist that serves to substantially cover the shoulders of a wearer. The garment .18 therefore provides a substantial secuning means for the strip 10 so that when the straps 19 of an under garment such as a brassiere or the like, are received between the loop or eye QO formed by bending the strip 10 non itself for engaging the snap fastened e ements 12 and 13, the straps 19 are positively precluded from slipping over the shoulders of a wearer.
It is obvious that the strips 10 are readily changed from one garment 18 to another similar garment and that straps 19 may be readily secured in the loop 20 and as readily be released from the garment and retaining device 10.
lVhat 'I clainris:
As a new article of manufacture, a shoulder strap retaining device comprising an elongated strip, the strip having a snap fastener element at its one end and having apertures at its other end, a second snap fastener element carried by the strip intermediate the first mentioned snap fastener element and the second end of the strip, the second mentioned snap fastener element being adapted to co-operate with the first mentioned snap fastener 'element for retaiuin part of the strip in a loop formation, an a safety pin extending through the apertures provided in the strip, and adapted to engage a garment for affixing the strip to the garment.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this 11th day of April,
1924. CORNELIA J. HUNT.
