Description

Oct. 21, 1930. E. A. WANGENHEIM su n'ry GARTER Filed Oct, 10. 192'! R. S m fi E, R W m .15 T 6 A M Patented Oct. 21, 1930 ETHEL A. WANGENHEIM,- OF SAN CISCO, CALIFORNIA SAFETY GARTER Application filed ct ober 10, 1927. Serial No. 225,343.
The present invention relates to improvements in womens garters or hose supporters. Articles of this nature, fall under two general types, one of which may be called suspension supporters, having their upper ends. attached to a belt, corset or undergarment, while their lower extremities are attached to the stockings; the other type consists of elastic bands fitted in encircling position around the limbs of the wearer.
My improved device consists of a combi nation of both of the above mentioned forms and has for its main object the providing of means for reinforcingthe stocking at thepoint where the grips are applied, to prevent the forming of runs or tears common to the sheer hosiery so much in use.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device 0 in use; a 1
Figure 2 is adetailed perspective view of the leg encircling band of my device;
Figure 3 is a vertical section through one of the suspension fasteners, stocking, and
elastic band.
Referring to the drawings, the numerals 1 and 2 designate the lower extremity of a hose support of a well known form carrying fasteners or grips 3. The elastic band 4 0 differs from the usual form in that it consists of a length of elastic webbing 5, the two ends of which are provided with snap fasteners 6 and 7, as plainly shown in Fig ure 2. The length of elastic webbing is further provided with a plurality of openings or button-holes 8 in spaced relation. WVhen the snap fasteners are mated the length ofelastic becomes an endless band of suitable dimensions to surround the leg as shown in Figure 1.
Referring to'Figure the tab 11 ofthe supporter 1, carrying a button 10 at its lower end is inserted between the leg of the wearer and the upper portion 4 of the stocking 9; the elastic band 4 then being adjusted'the head of the button 10,
together with that portion of the stocking which lies directly in front of it is forced through the opening 8 in the band 4 and the 5 grip 3 locked in position over the button head 3, it will be seen that outside the band. In this position to reinforce the stocking at the point 7 serves the band 4 of greatest strain and wear.
Having described my invention, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of various changes and I reserve the right to employ such changes as may come within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim A safety garter comprising an elastic, legencircling band constructed of non-metallic material and having openings therein, supported clasps,
gaging with a stocking, the buttons and stockings being receivable in said openings, and fastening members carried by said clasps and being engageable with the portions of the buttons and'stocking protruding through the openings, the walls of the openings yieldingly engaging with the. buttons for holding the stocking thereon and for acting asa yielding means for against th keeping the fastening members e heads of the buttons.
