Description

UNITED STATES PATENT oFFIcE.
GARMENT LEG-SUPPORTER.
Application 1ed January 17, 1921.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, HELEN K. lVHrrn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Alameda, county of Alameda, and State of California, have invented a new and useful Garment Leg-Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
My invention Vlrelates to garment :supporters.
An object of the invention is to provide improved means for supporting above the knee the ends of the legs of boys trousers. Another object of the invention is the provision of mea-ns which accomplishes the desired result by cooperation with the gartersl which are already part of the boys outfit, and without the addition of further restrictive bands.
My invention possesses other objects and features of advantage, some of which, with the foregoing, will be set forth in the following description of my invention. It is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the showing made by the said description, as I may adopt variant forms of my invention within the scope of the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation showing a portion of the leg of a pair of trousers and my supporter arranged thereon, and in cooperation with a side garter. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing my supporter in coperation with a round garter. Fig. 3 is a view of the inside of the leg and knee band.
It is well known to parents of growing boys that the lower portion of the legs of the boys trousers are more frequently hanging in a slovenly manner below the knees than retained above the knees in the neat way intended. This is due to the serene indifference to sartorial effects characterizing the healthy male at this age, and also to the absence of any satisfactory means for holding the garments in the position desired during his normal activities. Buckles and buttons have proved unsatisfactory since they customarily last no longer than it requires to pull them olf or tear out the button holes. Elastic bands are generally too tight or 6 o too loose. It is therefore the broad purpose of my invention to provide a simple means for obviating the diiculty, and which per- Specication of Letters Patent.

forms its function with certainty and convenience and without additional constrictive pressure on the leg.
Sewed securely on the inside of the knee band 2 of the garment are two bands 3 and l which are connected by a snap 5, and which thus form a loop. A one-piece band without the snap, and fastened at each end may be used, but I prefer a two-piece separable loop for its greater convenience and because,
my device may then be used with or round type of garter. Y
With the side garter, the garter ends are inclosed within the. loop and then secured to the stocking in the usual way. The knee band which is arranged to loosely encircle the leg is then buttoned above the knee. Because of theencircling loop the tendency of the knee band to fall below the knee is resisted and prevented by the garter. In undressing, a loosening of the garter from the stocking permits it to be freed from the loop. Either a one-piece or av two-piece separable loop may be used with the side garter.
With the round garter, usually adopted for the older boys, the loop is snapped through the garter and the knee band buttoned loosely about the leg above the knee.
I claim:
l. The combination with a trousers leg and a separate garter, of a band comprising a loop arranged on the leg and in which said arter may be enga ed.
2. he combination with a trousers leg and a separate garter, of a band comprising a loop in which said garter may be engaged arranged on the inside of said leg adjacent its end.
3. The combination with a trousers leg and a garter, of a band ixedly attached at one end to said leg, and means for releasably attaching the other end of the band to said leg to form a loop in which said garter may be engaged.
4. A garment comprising a loosely fitting knee band, a loop arranged thereon and a garter inclosed by said loop and otherwise unconnected to said knee band.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
HELEN K. WHITE.
