sion of an arrangement whereby a lower garment can be supported from an upper garment so that the two may be readily associated whenever desired A further object is to provide an arrangement whereby a lower garment may be supported from an upper garment in such a manner that the two may be partially separated in the minimum time.

In the embodiment herein disclosed for purposes of illustration, I have shown the association of a boy's blouse with a boy's pair of knickers in which the association at the rear is a separable one, and such that expansion at the back is permitted as the body is bent and in which the association at the front is also a separable one and in which the association at the sides is by means which permit of the'ready separation of the parts so and which at the same time provides for a constriction at the waist band for supporting the garment. The pants are shown as of a knicker construction in which the knicker characteristic is inherent in "the pants itself by the formation on the inside of the pants of a constricting annulus, the position of which is always maintained by the character of construction slightly above the bottom of the pants. It will be understood that this specific construction embodying the above mentioned features, has been disclosed as such only for purpose of illustration and that individual features thereof may be employed other than in the associations shown and that the association may be varied and that my invention is not to be restricted except as called for by the language, of the claims.

On viewing the drawing it will be observed that I there show a shirt A and a pair of trousers B of a type, such as are usually worn by small boys. 10 The trousers are intended to be hung from the shirt in such a manner that the disconnection thereof, or at least of a portion thereof, can be readily effected. For this purpose the trousers are made with a front flap E, which is separated w from the rear portion of the trousers by lateral slits 40. To enable ready detachment of the flap E from the shirt, the same is held in place on the shirt by a slide fastener of well known type, for example such as the one which is disclosed in Patent No. 1,557,382 Oct. 13, 1925.

One element Ill of the slide fastener is carried by the shirt, and the other element 12, completely separable therefrom, is carried by the trousers both of these elements being attached to their respective parts in any preferred manner, such as by sewing and said parts being reinforced to provide the necessary strength as shown by way of example at M, which indicates a reinforcing strip applied to the shirt.

Assembly of the garments at their rear portions is shown as effected in a different manner. At D I have indicated a series of connecting members in the form of straps, and in order to permit of the expansibility necessary at the rear waist portion of waist-encircling garments, these straps have been shown as made of elastic material. The elastic straps, denoted by 22, carry buttons 32 at their lower ends, adapted for insertion into the button-holes 36 formed in the waist portion 0 of the trousers.

In Figure 3, which. is a view in section through the shirt, will be found an illustrative disclosure of the details of the construction and mounting of the elastic straps 22. For the purpose of oba taining the necessary strength, the lower end portion of the shirt is shown as turned inwardly and doubled over twice, these doubled over portions lying close'to the inside of the outer fabric It constituting the main body of the shirt A, and 50 being denoted by I8 and 20 respectively. The elastic strap 22 is formed over the hem formed by the junctionof the doubled over portions l8 and 20 and is secured thereto in any preferred manner as by seam 24, while the free end of portion 28 is joined to portion l8 in any suitable or preferred manner as by a seam 28. 26 indicates a horizontal slit which passes through the superimposed portions l6, I8 and 20 of the material and may be lined with button-hole stitching, and the elastic strap 22 is passed therethrough. The upper portion of elastic strap 22 is shown as doubled over at 29, and the seam 24, already described, holds it in place in relation to the portion 20. In addition, the elastic strap and the portions I8 and 20 of the shirt are shown as joined by stitching 30, which may be of the type known in the trade as Bartack. The lower portion of elastic strap 22 carries the button 32 as already mentioned, and it is shown as turned in at its lower end and seamed at 34, to prevent unravelling. The button 32 in addition to its closure function, serves the useful purpose of preventing retraction of the free end of the strap 22 through the slit 26, with the resulting inconvenience.

It will be noted that the elastic straps 22 although fastened only at one end are sufliciently supported by the slits 26 so as to hold their free ends always in the proper position for use, without in any way interfering with their expansibility.

It has already been mentioned that the trousers A are provided at their front portion with the flap E which is separated from the other portion of the trousers by lateral slits 40, and in order to close these slits for the purpose of support of the trousers from the waist or hips of a wearer, I provide elastic bands 42,-

attached-to one portion of the trousers, illustrattively shown as the rear portion of the trousers, while, attached to the other portion of the trousers, that is, the forward one as shown, is a member adapted to receive the band or strap 42. To carry out,the idea of ready detachability, this member will naturally be selected of such a type as will allow such ready detachability and such a member is shown illustratively in Figure 5 as. in the form of a buckle 44 adapted to receive band 42 in sliding adjustable engagement, anad carrying one element 52 of a snap fastener, the othereelement 54 of which is carried by the trousers. gage the flap E, therefore, it is only necessary to disengage the

52 and 54 and the slide fastener C, while to secure the proper girth of the waist band of the trousers the bands 42 may be adjusted in relation to the buckle 44.

It will be observed that by providing elastic strap 42 and buckle 44, I obtain a readily detachable closure and the necessary yieldability.

At 46 is shown an inner lining, which, it will be observed, is shorter in the limb-surrounding portion than the corresponding portion of the To disen- I trousers, and is joined to the lower portion of the trousers byan elastic portion 48 of any suitable material. In practice, I have found rubberized cloth very satisfactory while for certain purposes knitted material is very good. Portion 48 is intended to surround the leg of the wearer with an elastic grip, but to be expansible so as to permit the insertion of the wearer's leg therethrough. Owing to the short ness of the lining 46 in relation to the outer material, it will be observed that portion 48 is located above the lower limb of the garment, whereby a knicker effect is produced, without there being any necessity for manual adjustment whatsoever.

Having thus described my invention and illustrated its use, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A shirt suitable for boy's wear, having its lower portion provided at the front with one element of a slidable closure and the lower portion at the rear thereof provided with a plurality of pendent elastic bands, each provided at its lower end with a button, a pair of trousers adapted for assembly to said shirt and provided at the front portion of the waist band portion thereof with an element of a slidable closure, and provided at the rear portion of the waist band portion thereof with button holes adapted to receive the aforementioned buttons, whereby said trousers may be readily attached to said shirt and readily detached therefrom and whereby suflicient expansion is provided inelastic form at the rear portion thereof to provide for ordinary usage, slits dividing the waistband portion 35 of said trousers into separated portions, and elastic restricting means adapted to bridge said slits to provide an elastic waist support for said trousers, said restricting means comprising readily detachable portions, whereby the waist band portions. v
