- It is another object of the present invention to provide a self-contained zipper attachment which:
; is particularly adapted to be inserted into a slit in the legof thev stocking and attached as a unit to the stocking and suiiciently` exible to permit the-'parts-thereofwith the sides of the stocking to be closed and wherein there will be provided as;
cover both internally and externally over the gipper.portions,y the external cover being such that "'itc'an be folded as the 'Zipper slide is drawn downwardly to free thestocking of the leg.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a simple closure attachment for use with slit stockings, which is easy to instal, inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation.
- .For other objects and forl a better understandvi-ing of the invention, reference may be had tothe y. following detailed description taken in connecr tion with the accompanying drawing, in which:
.:: 'Figure 1 is a perspective View looking upon the #rear face of' the stocking or legging in which the leg portion has been slit and `about the top of the stocking.
Figure 2 is an enlarged rear elevational view of the closure attachment showing the zipper portions partially opened and the cover adapted to be extended over the closed zipper portions.

Referring now tothe iigures, I5.represents a stocking having a foot portion I6 and a leg-porthroughout the length of the same.
shaped member has on itsy rupper,l ends, laterally tion I'I. The leg portion I'I is slit anda-reinforcing member I8 is stitched to the sides 0f the slit and about the top of the stockingk The stitching is indicated at I9 in Figure l.. The stocking may be made of a uniform weave -throughoutasgdistinguished from conventional stocking weaves, :or otherwise. of material that can flex to some degreepsuchvas heavy cloth tape plastic, or othersuitable flexible material. f l v- ,i
To this reinforcing member, theremay be connected my, Zipper attachment indicatedgenerally i at I9a which is formed as viewed-in,Figure'` of a U-shaped member 2I having a slot 22 extending Thel. jU
extending wingportions .23 forming a framework to-maintain the sock or stocking. in place vertically and peripherally-about the leg ofthe wearer .without constriction.v This member 2 I. may .be made of metal, exible plastic or `other semi-rigid or slightly :ilexible material and has projections which.; can'; be extended about thefreinforcing member I8 to make engagement thereWithL-T'he al.l .-shaped memberpZl. also has buttons 25 connected respectively to the wing portions 23 and a button 26 connected to its lower end adapted to enter hole 21. These buttons serve to secure the U-shaped member 2| and the parts carried thereon to the leg portion I1 of the stocking and over the reinforcing member I8. Accordingly, by means of buttons and by the projections 24, the zipper attachment can be easily and removably secured to the slit leg I'I of the stocking I5. U-shaped member 2I has a bottom tongue 26a which is adapted to engage the rear face of the ankle and abut the curved part of the heel and thereby prevent vertical displacement of said member 2|.
On the back of the member 2| there is stitched as indicated at 28, zipper portions 29 and 3l having the-zipper elements 32 thereon. A slide 33 traverses the zipper elements 32 whereby to connect them together or to release them so as to close the slit or to permit the opening of the slit in the leg portion II and/the release of the The reinforcing member I8 is made stocking from the leg of the wearer. A cover strip 35 is stitched as'indicated at 36 to the zipper the stocking to be cleaned by a washingVN operar tion without my closure attachment.
The structure above described in operation maintains the sock smoothly about the leg por'- tions and there are no constrictions as bythe use of garters of the blood supply.
