GARMENT SUPPORTER.
APPLICATION FILED Dec. 24. Isls.

GARMENT-sUPPORTER.
Application filed December 24, 1918.
To all whom t may concern: A
Be it known that I, ROBERT E. MCCAIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of `Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specifipanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in garment supporters, and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with hose, and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character which may be applied with convenience and facility, and which may 'be used with comfort by the wearer. It is also an object of-the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character embodying a hose engaging member and a body garment engaging member, and wherein said members are detachably engaged so that the hose or the garment may be removed without the. necessity of disengaging the hose engaging member from the hose or the body garment engaging member from such garment. y
An additional object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this general character whereinthe same is employed in connection with a legging to which a stocking is engaged, and which arrangement of my improved device is termed a combination legging garter; and when my improved supporter is' employed independently of a legging, it is termed a legging garter.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the vcombination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved garment supporter whereby certain importantadvantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwlse more convenient and advantageous for use, as -will be hereinafter `more fully set fort The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
'In order that my invention may be the Ibetter understood, I will now proceed .to describe the same with reference to the -accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation illustrating a garment supporter constructed in Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. d, f9f9.
Serial No. 268,143.
vof the uppers-portion of the hose engaging member.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings,'1 denotes a non-elastic body or pad having secured to the upper portion thereof the extremities of the non-elastic tapes 2. Engaged with the opposite end portions of the tapes 2 are the clasps 8, and these clasps 3 are adapted to be engaged with a shirt or other body garment S, and preferably at the opposite sides of a side slit of a dress shirt.
4 denotes a second non-elastic body or pad, to the lower end of which is connected a plurality of elastic tapes 5, preferably threein number, with the centrai tape of a length less than the outer tapes. The opposite or outer extremities of the' tapes 5 are provided with the clasps 6, herein disclosed as engaged with .the upper end portion of a legging L.
The legging L is preferably ofa knitted fabric, and is of a length to extend above the knee of the leg to which it is applied. The hose H overlies the lower end portion of the legging L and is secured thereto by a safety pin 7 or its equivalent.
As herein disclosed, the bodies or pads 1 andA 4 overlie when connected one to the other and the body or pad 4 is provided with a button 8 adapted to be disposed through the `button hole 9 in the body or pad 1, so that said pads may be detachably connected, so that when itis desired to remove the shirt S or the legging L it is not necessary to disengage the clasps 3 from the shirt S or the clasps 7 from the legging L. I have found it of particular advantage to employ the legging L, as by the use thereof my improved supporter may be employed with greater convenience and with greater comfort to the user, and for this reasonll term the form of. hose supporter as herein disclosed a garter legging.
It i'sfto be understoodthat if preferred the tapes 5 may be of such a length as to per- 'l' From the foregoing description, it is thought'to be obvious that a garment supporter constructed in acordance with my invention' svpartioularly well adapted for use by reason ofthe convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof, and for this rea-l son I do not wish to be' understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice eX- cept as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
A hose supporter comprising a pad, diverging tapes secured to the outer end of said pad, the outer extremities of thetapes being provided With""garment engaging means,v a second pad overlying the first Ypads for detacha-bly connecting the same in overlying relation,4 diverging tapes secured lto the outer end portion of the second pad,
the extremities of said last named tapes being provided. with garment engaging means, and a third tape secured to the second named pad between said last named diverging tapes and of a' length less than'the said last lnamed diverging tapes, the outer. end portion of said tape being also provided with garment engaging means.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aliX my signature in the presence 0f two witnesses.
