Description

S. PUNCH GARMENT SUPPORTER A rill 16, 1940.
Filed 001;. 10. 1938 Inventor c a "Mg Patented Apr. 16, 1940 NITED srA'rEs rare 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to garment supporters embodying a leg embracing strap and having a plurality of attaching straps extending upwardly therefrom for attaching to the bottom edge of a girdle whereby to prevent upward movement of the girdle on the wearer.
A further object is to provide a garment supporter of this character which includes an adjustable leg encircling band which constitutes a garter for securing a stocking in position, while at the same time providing means for attaching the supporter to the lower end of the girdle for the purpose above explained.
Another object is to provide an article of this character of simple and practical construction,
which is comfortable to the wearer, relatively inexpensive in manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for Which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout and in which The figure represents a perspective view of the garment supporter.
Referring now to the drawing in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral designates a leg encircling strap generally which includes a pair of inelastic sections 6 and I connected along one end by a pair of elastic straps 8, the opposite end of the section a 6 having the ends of a narrow elastic strap 9, connected thereto, said strap 9 forming a loop, the bight of which passes over the center bar of a buckle it with the tongue of the buckle passing through a hole in the strap. The free end of section 1 is formed with a tongue having holes H therein for engagement with the buckle, the tongue of the buckle passing through a hole H as shown.
To the inner surface of the strap section 'l is 45 secured one end of a, protector strap l2 of double thickness which has its free end extending in a direction toward the strap section 6 immediately behind the buckle ill to protect the leg of the wearer from contact with the buckle.
Each of the strap sections 6 and i is formed of a pair of co-extensive pieces of material secured together in fiatwise relation by stitching l 3 and between the layers of material are secured the ends of a plurality of straps M, each strap Hi having its ends connected in spaced relation to a strap section 6 or I with the strap l4 having its two parts converging upwardly and the bight part of the strap passed around a ring member l5 carried at the lower end of an adjustable strap 16 to the upper end of which is secured a tab ll, said tab being adapted for engagement to the usual strap fastener depending from the girdle of a woman. A plurality of the girdle attaching straps are spaced at desired points circumferentially of the leg embracing strap 5 as will be apparent from an inspection of the drawing.
To the inside of one of the strap sections of the leg embracing member is secured a relatively soft pad it of material such as velvet or the like, and adapted to frictionally engage the stocking of the wearer to prevent the slipping of the stocking downwardly while the supporter is being worn.
The leg embracing strap 5 is preferably attached to the leg of the wearer immediately above the knee whereby the same will serve as a garter for securing the stocking in position while the girdle attaching straps will prevent the riding upwardly of the girdle while the supporter is being worn. The main purpose of this invention is to prevent upward movement of the girdle soit is important to so form the garter or leg encircling. member 5 that it will not move up the leg under a pull from the girdle. Therefore, I make the major portion of the garter of nonelastic material as shown by the sections 6 and l and the elastic parts 8 and 9 are relatively short, these elastic portions being used to impart a relatively slight amount of yield to the garter so that it will lit the leg with comfort and permit free movement of the muscles as the leg is moved but this yielding movement is not sufficient to permit the garter to be pulled upwardly on the leg by the girdle when the girdle attempts to move upwardly.
By making the elastic straps 8 very narrow and using a pair of them I find there is no tendency of these parts to curl or fold as there is when a wide elastic strap is used.
Each strap it can be made adjustable in any suitable manner but the drawing shows the strap passing through a ring l5 and having one end connected to a clamping buckle It through which another portion of the strap l6 passes with the upper end of said portion being connected with the pad ll.
It is believed the details of construction and manner of use of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
[ OFFlCE 4 connected with the second end of the other non elastic part for detachably engaging the fastener, elastic straps connected with the upper edge of the leg encircling member, each strap being of loop shape with its limbs diverging downwardly and having their ends connected with the leg encircling member, a ring connected to the upper end of each last-mentioned elastic strap and an adjustable member passing through each ring and adapted to be connected to the lower part 10 of a, girdle.
