This invention relates to supporters and has as a primary object to provide means for supporting articles of wearing apparel such as hose or the like which will exert no strain or pressure on either the shoulders or abdomen ofV the wearer.

The invention further contemplates the provision of a supporting belt which will exert no pressure on the shoulders or abdomen of the wearer together with means for combining this belt with a body encircling garment for supporting the belt in proper position.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become more apparent as the following description proceeds, particularly Vwhen references is had to the accompanying drawings wherein,

Figure l is a front elevational view of a supporter formed in accordance with the teachings of this invention;

Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the supporter shown in Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure l showing the invention combined with a corselette;

Figure 4 is a rear elevational View of the garment shown in Figure 3, and

Figure 5 is a side elevational view showing the supporter associated with a childs underwaist.

The invention contemplates in its broader aspects the combination with a body encircling garment such as a corset, corselette, girdle or childs undergarment, of a belt or the like suspended from the garment and provided with straps or the like for connection to an article of wearing apparel to be supported. Thus in use the articles of apparel will be supported by the belt while the belt in turn will be supported by the hips of the wearer. The garment is such that the belt is suspended from above the hips of the wearer at the back and extends around the body of the wearer from the waist line at the back to the middle and lower extremity of the trunk of the body in front where the two ends of the belt are brought together and secured in any desired manner, thus eliminating pressure on the abdomen of the wearer.

Referring then particularly to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate correspindng parts throughout all views, there is shown in Figure 1 a body encircling garment in the form of a girdle l0. This form of invention discloses a supporting belt 11 comprising a strip of iiexible, non-elastic material wide enough to cover the curve of the hips and this belt is stitched or otherwise secured intermediate its ends to the girlde 10 adjacent the waist line connection tothe girdle 10 in the back only, the remainder or front portion of the belt hangs freely to substantially the lower extremity of the trunk of the body.

Fixed to the belt at the frontare straps 15 provided on their free ends with fasteners 16 for connection to a hose or the like. -As indicated four of these straps are preferably provided so that two of the same may be engaged with each stocking adjacent the front thereof. It is also preferable to provide straps 17 suspended from the lower edge of the body encircling garment at the rear thereof, these straps being provided with fasteners 16 also for connection to the rear of thestocking so that three fasteners are provided for connection to each stocking.

It will be obvious that the straps 17 must have more play than the straps 15 because of the much greater strain on the same when the Wearer is in a sitting position. For this reason the belt is pulled close to the body of the wearer in back by the stronger tension of the straps attached to the ends of the belt in front. desired suitable tabs 19 and 20 may be xed to the front and rear of the garment 10 for connection to a pad or the like whereby the same may be supported from the garment.

From the above it is believed that the struc- 05 ture of the invention will be clearly apparent. Thus the tension applied to Ythe belt incident to the supporting of hose or the like from the same, tends only to draw the rear of the belt snugly against the back and hips or pelvic structure by which the strain is entirely supported and does not create any pressure whatsoever on the abdomen ofthe wearer. The belt is supported entirely by thehips, its attachment to the body encircling garment being for the sole purpose of maintaining the back of the belt in position above the hips or at the waist line.

In Figures 3 and 4 a slightly modified form of construction is disclosed wherein the supporter comprises a belt associated with a body encircling garment such as the corselette 25. In this form oi invention the belt 26 is stitched to the back of the corselette as at 27. As clearly illustrated, the ends of this belt are cut to parallel the waist line as indicated by the reference character 28 and are extended around the'body of the wearer and connected together as at 29, Ybelow the abdomen. When so connected `the belt encircles the body of the wearer and the rear portion of the belt is above thehips of the wearer, while the front portion of the belt Vis enirely below the hips. Hose supporting straps 30 are in this form secured to the :ends of .the belt at the front and additional straps 31 may, if desired, be secured to the lower end of the corselette 2,5 at the back.

In Figure 5 astill-urther modiiied formv of invention disclosed wherein the supporting belt 35 is stitched as at 36 to a childs underwaist or the like 37. In this formof invention the hose supportingr straps 38 Vare connected to the ends oi the belt at the front thereof and no hose isupporters are provided for engagement with the stockings at the back.

In each yform of invention .it will be noted that there is provided a belt associated with a body encircling garment in such a manner that the body encircling garment prevents the back of the belt from slipping below the hips oi the wearer. Thus the belt is supported at the back and sides by the hips oi the wearer, while the front of the belt is suspended below the hips and Waist line of the wearer terminating at substantially the lower extremity of the trunk of the body. The straps for supporting the articles of wearing apparel are connected to the belt at the front thereof and at the back they are connected to the body encircling garment when this garment is suiiciently long. Since the belt does not extend directly around the body of the wearer but is rather arranged in 4an. inclined plane or diagonally, pressure is only exerted across the back of the wearer and is `The kright is therefore reserved to make such changes in the details of construction and arrangement of parts as will fall within the purview of the attached claims.

What I kclaim as my invention is:

1. `In a hose supporter, a strip of flexible inelastic material having an intermediate portion adapted to snugly Aengage the back of the wearer above the hips and having end portions adapted to extend forwardly and downwardly around the body vof the wearer to the lower extremity of the trunk `of the wearer, said strip'A of material being of sufficient length to be free trom coniining engagement with the front of the body of the wearer and the ends of said strip being secured together adjacent the upper edge only ci said strip whereby the edges of the-ends of said strip are free from connection to each other throughout the major .portions .of their lengths, and hose supporters secured to the free edges of the ends of said strips.
