GARTERLQ Application filed April 19, 1926. Serial No; 103,107,.
This invention appertains to garment supporters and the primary object ofthe in yention is to provide a stocking supporter of the type embodying a band for embracing the leg and a tab carrying a stocking fastener.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a novel means for detachably connecting the tab with the leg band, whereby different lengths of tabs can be readily associated therewith, so that the garter can be fitted relative to the heightof the person as well as the size of the leg.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a novel tab of a resilient nature having means at one end thereof for engagmg the stocking to he supported and means at its other end for detachable connection with the leg band.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a garter of the above character, which will be durable and efficient in use, one that will be simple and easy to manufacture, and one which can be placed upon the market at a small cost. I
With these and other objectsin view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will i be hereinafter more specifically described,
claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the garcates the improved garter, which comprisesv a leg band 5 of any preferred or conventional construction. As shown the leg band 5 em bodies a front body portion 6 which is of generally a padded nature and which has connected to the frontend-thereof the strap 7 which can be formed of'elastic or non-elastic material. The length of the strap 7 can be adjusted in the usual way and the free end thereof supports means 8 for detachable engagement with the opposite side of-the body 6; p v
In accordance with thisinvention the tab 10 which is employed for attaching the stocking with the leg band is of a detachable nature, whereby the tab canbe made in varying lengths to conform to the height of the person buying the garter. As shown the tab 10 embodies a strip of material having the usual stocking fastener 12 associated with thelower end thereof. The upper end of the tab 10 carries the female portion 13 of a snap fastener 14, the male portion 15 of which is secured to the body 6. It is'ob vious thatby this construction that the tab can be readily and uickly detachably connected with the b0 y when desired. The strip 11 from which the tabis formed can be either 'made of elastic or non-elastic material. By having the' tabs 10 in different len ths, a person can buy a pair of garters wit the tabs detached therefrom and have the tabs of a desired length connected thereto.
In Figure 3 of the drawings, I have shown I a modified type of tab generally indicated by the reference character 20 which includes a coil spring body 21 to give the tab the desired resilient nature. The'opposite ends of the coil s ring body 21 are'provided with eyes 22, w ich are adapted to engage respectively the female portion 13 of the snap fastener 14 and the stocking fastener 12, as will be now described. In order to provide a simplemeans of attaching the stocking fastener 12 with the depending resilient tab I provide the loop 23 of the fastener at its upper end with a suitable opening therethrough and the stocking fastener directly in rear of the loop with a tab 24 carrying the stud 25 adapted to be engaged by the loop. The loop 23, stocking fastener tab 24 and the lower eye 22 of the coil spring are connected together by a shoe eyelet 26, which firmly binds the three together. in a .con venient and expeditious manner.
Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or the scope of this invention, but:
What I claim as new is:
1. In a garter, a detachable'tab therefor comprising a coil spring body having an eye at the lower end thereof, a stocking fastener including a rigid loop, a flexible tab and a stud carried by the lower end of the flexible tab for engagementwith the loop, and an 1,666,823 Es PA T O F r' eyelet extending through the eye formed on one end of the coil spring body, through the loop of the stocking fastener and said flexible tab.
2. A garter comprising: a band anda tab, the tab including a resilient body, a stocking fastener connected with the body having a loop, a flexible tab arranged in rear of the loop, and a stud carried by the flexible tab adapted to be engaged by the loop, the up per end of the resilient body terminating in,
