SHOULDER STRAP SUPPORTER Filed Nov. 8, 1957 Patented June 21, 1938 V. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SHOULDER, STRAP SUPPORTER .Willa E. Smith, San Diego, Calif. Application November 8, 1937, Serial 'No. 173,493
10 Claims.
This invention relates toa shoulder strap supporter for holding and supporting the shoulder strap or straps of lingerie and the like and avoiding the annoyance occasioned by such straps slipping out of place and off the shoulders of the wearer. I
Oneof the objects of this invention is to provide a device of this character wherein the means for'securin'g the device to the garment, is complete in itself, and thenecessityof utilizing other means, such as safety pins or the like, for fatening the device to the garment is obviated.
A further object is to provide a device of this character wherein no metal parts whatever contact with the body of the person using the same.
A further object is to provide a device of this character wherein a finger hold. or pull isformed 0n the device itself and the device readily unfastened so as to release the straps.
Heretofore the usual practice has been to permanently attach by stitching or the like, the device to" the garment or connect the same to thegarment by means of a safety pin or the like, both methods being objectionable in many respects. V v e p In the accompanying drawing wherein similar reference numerals are used to'indicate corresponding parts in each of the several views:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing the device as applied in use;
Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the device as attached to the garment, the garment being shown-in section;
Fig; 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the device as applied;
a Fig. 5 is a view in perspective of the device;
Fig. 6 is a plan view of one side of the device; andl 1 Fig. 7 is a plan view of the opposite side.
The" elongated strip or tape H] has secured thereto one member I l of a snap fastener a short distance from the free end, the portion of the tape at this end projecting beyond the snap fastener member H forming a pull or tab l2, to be used when the device is opened to permit of the removal of the straps.
There is also secured to the tape a complemental member l3 of a snap fastener, a short distance from the member I I. When the two members II and I3 are secured together there is formed a loop l4 through which the strap passes and by which it is retained in position on the shoulder of the wearer.
The end of the tape or strip beyond member 13 is formed into a loop It: the free end of which is secured to the body of the tape by means of the member has at I6.
' Both snap members II and I3 are arranged on the same side of the strip or tape so that when they are secured together and in use no part of the map will be in contact with the body of the wearer.
Secured to the tape on each side of the loop I5 is a snap fastener fabric engaging members I1 and I8. 1 These two members are on the opposite side of the tape from snap members II and I3 and are adapted to receive between them the inturned portions '|9, of the fabric of the garment 20, just below the shoulder seam 2|.
The connecting member 22 of the loop portion I5 may of course be dispensed with and the fabric engaging snap members H and i8 secured to the two parts 23 and 24 of the tape and equally ood results attained.
The manner of using this device will be obvious from the foregoing. The fabric engaging fastening means I! and I8 are snapped over or through the inturned portions of the garment just below the shoulder seam and the end of the tape carrying the snap member II is passed under the shoulder strap and fastened in its cooperating snap member l3. When the device is to be removed from the garment all that is necessary is to take, hold of the tab I2 and by a slight pull separate the fastening means which hold" the device to the garment. If the device isnot to be removed from the garment but simply unfa'stened so that the straps may be released then the snap members I! and I3 are separated.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I aimas new .and desire to secure by Letters Patentof the United States is:-
