Description

L. LIPSON LINGERIE CLASP .Filed Dec. l4. 1923 INVENTOR [so 33m I it? ATTORN Y Patented May I 6, 1324.
PATENT OFFICE.
LEO LIPSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LINGERIE CLASP.
Application filed December 14, 1923. Serial No. 680,582.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEO LIPSON, a citizen of Russia, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a 6 certain new and useful Improvement in- Lingerie Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in a clasp for holding or confining the shoulder straps ofladies undergarments together as a unit, so that the same cannot become separated or slip down from the shoulders of the wearer.
The object of this invention is to provide an article of this character which will be particularly efficient in use, which will hold the shoulder straps together securely and which will be provided with means for attaching it to a dress or outer garment so that its position with respect to the straps of the undergarments that it engages will be maintained.
A further object of this invention is to provide a clasp of the character mentioned which will be thin and flat and unobtrusive and particularly adapted by reason of its construction to perform the functions for which it is designed.
With these objects, and such other objects as may hereinafter appear, in view, I have devised the particular arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, in which Figure '1 is a perspective view showing my improved clasp;
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the clasp as it appears when in use and also showing a fragment of an outer garment to which it is secured;
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 44 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 5 isa plan view of a modified form of clasp member, and
Figure 6 is a sectional vview on the line 6-6 of Figure 5 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Throughout the various views of the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
In the embodiment of. my invention disclosed in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive, the body portion of the device consistsof an elongated flat plate 1 which is preferably formed from a thin metal strip and the .same is provided at its opposite ends with transverse slots 2.
At 3 and 4 are shown a pair of fabric strips or tabs which have their ends extending,through the slots 2 and folded back and stitched as at 5 to form loops which surround end bars 6 on the plate 1. The outer ends of the strips 3 and 4 are provided with co-operating snap fastener members 7 and 8.
In Figures 3, 4 and 5, the manner in which the device is used will be seen wherein it will be noted that the shoulder straps 9 of the undergarments extend at the back of the plate 1 and said straps are confined or embraced by the fabric loops 3 and 4 which have their ends attached together by the snap fastener members 7 and 8 at the back of the shoulder straps.
The plate 1 is provided with a suitable retaining pin 10 which, in the construction shown in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive is integrally formed at the longitudinal center of the plate 1 and normally tends to spring outward. The end of said pin 10 is confined when the pin is in its closed position, and by means of a loop or keeper 11 which is also integrally formed on the plate 1. The purpose of this pin is to attach the clasp to a dress, waist or outer garment of the wearer so that it will be impossible for the clasp to slide down on the straps which it confines.
To remove the clasp from its connection with the straps, it is simply necessary to disconnect the engagement of the snap fas tener members 7 and 8, leaving the entire clasp attached to the outer garment 12 by the pin 10. If the material of the outer garment is of sufficient thickness, the pin may be attached to it without being discernible on the exterior of the garment.
In Figures 5 and 6 a modification of the device is shown wherein a separate pin 13 is shown, said pin being hinged at 14. The pin 13 normally tends to swing outward as shown in dotted lines in Figure 5 and when in its closed position, it is retained in a v recess 15 formed in a projecting lug 16 on the plate 1.
From the foregoing, it is obvious that my invention is not to be restricted to the exact embodiment shown but is broad enough to cover all structures coming within the scopeof the annexed claims.
What I claim is:
1. An article of the class described comprising a plate, a pin for attaching said plate to an outer garment. fabric tabs secured to said plate and adapted to co-op crate with the plate to form a loop about '2. An'article' of the class described com- I prising a plate, means for attaching said plate to an outer garment, fabric tabs secured to the ends of said plate and adapted to co-operate with the plate to confine together several shoulder straps, and interengaging fastening means on said tabs for detachably uniting the same.
Signed at the city, county and State of New York, this 11th day of December, 1923.
LEO LIPSON.
