3 claims. (ci. :a4- 73) This invention relates 'to garment supporters the purpose of which is to suspend the trousers or lower garment by means of a device of my invention by attaching same to the lower portion of a shirt or other upper garment.
Itis the primary object of my invention to provide a garment supporter With'which the trousers of A.the wearer may be suitablyl supported by conveniently attaching same Vto the tail of the outer shirt, and also to thus hold the shirt securely in place preventing it from slipping outside thetrouser waistband.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described which may be permanently` sewed onto the inner waistband of the trousers or may be detachably affixed by a unique double safety pin of my invention.
A further object of my invention is to provide a garment supporter in which is incorporated improved means by which the shirt may be doubly gripped to insure against its slipping out of engagement.
The invention will be fully and comprehensively understood from a consideration of the following detailed description when read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms part; of the application, with the understanding, however, that the improvement is capable of extended application and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawing nor to the precise construction described and, therefore, such changes and modifications may be made therein as do not affect the spirit of the invention nor exceed the scope thereof as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Fig. l is an elevational View illustrating the use of my garment supporter attached to the trouser waist band of the wearer.
Fig. 2 is a detail elevational view of my garment supporter illustrating its double attachment to the tail of the shirt.
Fig. 3 is a vertical central sectional View of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of my device with the shirt attaching means opened out to 'illustrate the construction thereof.
In describing the invention in detail and the particular physical embodiment illustrating the invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts thruout the several views.
My inventionl comprises in general two component parts, that is, a plate indicated by numeral 5 upon which is'incorporated means for permanently attaching same .to the inner waist band of a trousers and other means by which the plate 5 may be detachably a'ixed to the waist band, and a flexible tongue secured to the" plate 5 by which, in cooperation with plate 5, my device may be attachedto the tail of the shirt. Plate 5 is provided at its outer edges with a plurality of eyelets 6 by which same may be sewed onto the inner waist band of the trousers. Alg-the lower edge Vof plate 5 is hingedly attached a ueshaped double pointed safety pin 1, Athe hinge portion being formed by lugs e integralV with plate 5 being bent over the intermediate portion of the safety pin l. Plate 5 is further provided with a symmetrical aperture 9, the upper portion of which has its edges converging slightly to form a loop I il.
The portion of my device by which its attachment to the shirt tail is effected, comprises a flexible tongue II, an end of which is secured to the lowei` portion of plate 5 by a wire staple I2. A member I3, formed by punching a portion of the aperture 9, is bent back into parallelism with the face of plate 5 to form a portion of the hinge of the safety pin 'l as well as to conceal the sharp ends of the wire staple I2, thus forming a neat practical structure at this portion of plate 5. Flexible tongue II is provided at its free end with an overlapping member I4 upon the surface of which is integrally formed a button or stud I5. The position of the stud I5 is Vsuch that it may be engaged into loop I0 to grasp the tail of the shirt in cooperation with plate 5. Member I4 has its end arcuately formed in parallelism with which an arcuate bead I6 is provided on one surface of flexible tongue II. The bead I6 functions in cooperation with the arcuate free end of the member I4 to assist in holding the button I5 in engagement within the loop I5, thereby effecting a more secure grasp of the garment by the associated members. This function of the bead I 6 is more obvious in theillustration of the device as shown in Fig. 3. It is to be noted therein that the garment is doubled under the overlapping member I4 and is thus engaged between the free end of member I4 and the bead I6, which bead by virtue of its proximity to the free end of member i4 effects the more secure holding of the latter after the garment has been grasped by the device.
As hereinbefore stated, the plate 5 may be permanently attached by sewingronto the inner waistband of the trousers or, if desired, may be Ylapping member Y arcuate bead I6 andthe engagementiof stud *accidentally releasing same.
detachably affixed to same by the insertion of the double safety pin 1. To insure protection of the pointed ends ofY safety pin 'I ears II are provided under which rthe points of the pin 1A may be hooked. -In describing the attachment of vmy'device tothe,` tail of the shirt particularV sufficient Vresilience to permit the 'convenient placement of button I5 Withinthe `loop and yet by its semi-rigidity to auxiliate the retention` of button I5 in cooperation with the' Vconvergent edges of loop I0. Itis to be observed that by the engagementY of the shirt under the over; Il-in cooperation with the I5 in loop IIIV effects a doubly secure gripping oi' the shirt, thuseliminating lall possibiltybi What is claimed asnew is:`
1. A device of' the character described com- Y prising 'a first 4member adapted to be attached toV a trousers, `a second member hingedly at-Y tached to the lower `end of the first member and including a flap at its upper Yend bent over toward the rst member, the latter having a At this time the stud I5, being" slot and the ap being provided with a button adapted to be held in said slot, said second member including aI bead just below the end of said iiap and on the same side of the second member, said bead and said ap being so related as to grip a portion of a garment when said buttonis engaged in saidslot. Y
`2. A deviceof the character described comprising a rst member adapted to vbe attached to a trousers, a second member hingedly attached to the lower end of the rst member and including a flap at its upper end bent over toward the first member, the latter having a slot and the ap being provided with a vbutton adapted, to be Yheld in said slot, a U-shaped pin pointed at its ends and hingedly attached to said rst member'and means extending from said first member and Vfunctioning as holding -means Vand guards for the pointed ends of the 8. A device of the character described com- Drisng a. nrst member adapted to be attached to a trousers, a second member hingedlyat- Vtached to the lower end of the rst member, the latter having a slot and :the second member being provided with a button adapted to engage with said slot and a U-shaped pin pointedV at its ends and hingedly attached to said'rst member and means extending lfrom said rst member and functioning as holding means and guards for the pointed ends of the pin.
