Description
1929. R. ROTHMAN GARMENT SUPPORTER Filed May 19, 1927 Patented Aug. 13, 1929.
UNITED STATES ROSE ROTHMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GARMENT SUPPORTER.
Application filed May 19,
This invention relates to improvements in garment supporters and more particularly to garment supporters for womens undergarments, such as brassieres, corset covers, and similar items of lingerie. The mvention is applicable also to hose supporters and all types of garment supports, but I have deemed it best to show a single embodiment of my improved support as applied to a ladvs brassiere.
F uither details of my invention will be apparent from the specification and drawings in which Fig. l is a perspective view of a young woman, wearing a garment with my improved attachment thereon.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the brassiere showing two shoulder straps fitted with my attachment as will be hereinafter more particularly described.
Fig. is a sectional view along the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. -i is an enlarged detail in perspective showing the end of the shoulder strap in place.
Fig. is a perspective View showing the method of attaching my improved shoulder strap. Fig. 6 is a sectional view along the line 66 of Fig. 5.
F 7 is a. plan view of an improved shoulder strap embodying my invention.
.Fig. 8 is a sectional view along the line 8-8 of Fig. 7.
Fig. 9 is a sectional view 99 of Fig. 7.
Fig. 10 is a sectional view along the line 10-40 of Fig. 7.
My aim in producing this improved shoulder strap was to provide a method of fastening a womans garment without the use of metal fasteners of any kind, and also, if possible, to obviate the use of buttons permanently attached to the garment which make the garment more difficult to launder and which are apt to be broken in the process of laundering.
My improved fastener is made by attaching a small pocket or loop A having the opening B as clearly shown in Figs. 4 and 5. Co-operating with this pocket or loop A is the shoulder strap C which is shown in extended form in Fig. 7 of the drawing. It consists of a simple, flat tube or cylinder of sill; or similar material which can be made by folding over a piece of silk ribbon along the line 1927. Serial No. 192,554.
and joining the same along its length, the ends thereof coming to a point, as clearly shown in Fig. 7, so as to be more readily insertable into the opening B. Into this flat tube or fastener C an opening D is made, which opening is sufliciently wide to admit a disc E, which disc may be made of metal, ivory or similar material, or for conven ience a flat button of the proper size may be used. It should be noted that the size of the disc E should be sufficiently large so that it will not pass through the opening B of the loop or pocket A.
The method of using my improved fastener is as follows I slip the end of the strap C through the opening in the pocket A and when the openlng D has passed below the pocket A,-I then slip the disc E into the opening D and the disc E naturally falls into the end of the strap G. Then by pulling the strap in the reverse direction, the disc E is firmly held against the pocketor loop A and no other fastening is required as it will readily be seen that the disc E cannot pass the loop or pocket A. To release the disc E from the strap it is only necessary to pull down the end of the strap past the opening D and then the disc E can be pushed out of the opening D.
It will thus be apparent that I have herein devised a new fastener which requires no metal or permanent attachment to the garment of any kind and in which both the garment and the shoulder strap are readily washable without possible injury to the fas tener.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is 1. A supporter for a garment comprising a tubular strap closed at both ends and having a slit intermediate said ends and a holding disc within said strap, said disc being removable through said slit.
2. In a garment supporter, a tubular strap closed at both ends and having an opening intermediate said ends, said opening being sufiiciently large to permit the entrance or exit of a holding element, a holding element positioned within said strap and a loop attached to the garment cooperating as a holding means with said holding element.
3. In a garment fastener, a flat tubular holding member having a narrow opening therein and a holding disc fitting in said opening and removable from said member.
4:. In a garment fastener, the combination of a disc and a flat tubular strap of textile material having an opening therein to receive said disc, said disc being removable from said strap and a loop on the garment adapted to hold said disc in place.
5. In a garment fastener, the combination of an element and a flat. tubular strap of textile material having an opening therein to recelve. said element, said element being removable from said strap and a loop on the garment adapted to hold said element in; pl ce.
6. In a garment supporter, the combination of a tubular strap having an opening therein to receive a disc, a removable disc held in said strap anda loop on the garment adapted'to hold said disc in place, said U loop having anopening narrower than the diameter of said disc.
7. In a garmentsupporter, the combination of a tubular strap having an opening therein to receive an element, a removable element held in said strap and a loop on the garment adapted to hold said element in place, said loop having an openlng narrower than the diameter of sald element.
material having a narrow opening to receive an element and an element removably held in said strap at one end thereof, in combination with means attached to the garment adapted to hold said disc in place.
10. In a garment supporter, the combination of a hollow "strap of textile material .anda disc, said strap having .an opening therein to receive said disc and holding means on the garment cooperating wlth said strap to support said garment.
11. In a garment supporter, the combination of a hollow strap of textile material and an element, said fstraphaving an open ing therein to receive saidelement and hold ing means on the. garmentcooperating with said strap to support saidgarment.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature BOSE ROTHMAN.
