This invention relates to improvementsin shoe fasteners, an being toprovide a shoe with a series of independently operated fastening'devices which can` be conveniently attached -or replaced whenl worn or broken and which will permit the shoe to be secured around the ankle and to conform to the shape thereof by reason ofthe fact that the individual fasteners can be adjustedr so that they maybe of v varying le shoe. f Y Y l A further object isfto provide an improved shoe fastener which can be conveniently and uickly operated and which will be neat an attractive in appearance and mosteliciently perform the functions for which it is intended..

With these and other objects in view the gths atjdiferent points on the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

In the modification illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5, I employ the same loop 5 and its fspciacatitn orLetter-s rggegg'fpatnted- A'ug, 3, 1920 I 3, but connect the strap 3 with the side 4 of the shoe upper by means of an adjusting slide buckle 12, a clip 13, and a button 8 similar to the button of the preferred form. The clip 13 is secured by the button 8 to the side 4 of the shoe'upper and is connected to one end of the adjusting buckle 12, while the strap 3 is connectedV to the adjusting buckle and is capable of a longitudinal adjustmentto give the desired len th to the strap to exactly suit the user. I 3 is, of course, provided with a buttonhole 11 to engage'the button 8.

In the modification illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7, I provide a fastener 14 which is provided with a loop 15 receiving and supporting the loop 5, and said fastener is provided with prongs 16 whichare projected through the shoe upper to secure the fastener 111 place. In this form of my invention I also provide an adjusting slide buckle 17 which has a recessed end 18 so that it can be removably positioned'on the shank of button 8, thus enabling the strap 3 and its buckle 17 to be disconnected at will.

In the modification illustrated in Figs. 8 and 9, the structure is like that shown in' Figs. 4 and 5 with the exception that I employ a fastening device 14 similar to that shown in Figs. 6 and 7.

In Figs. 1'0 and 11, I illustrate a modification in which I employ the same structure of the strap 3 and its connecting means to the shoe upper as illustrated inFigs. 3, 4, 5 and, but employ in lieu of the loop 5 and its fastener a loop member 17 which is removably connected to a button 18 on the shoe upper, and to facilitate the connect1on and disconnection of the loop member 17 I provide a recess 19 at one end of the loop member to engage the shank of the button 18.

In the modification illustrated in Figs. 12 and 13, I strap 3, t e latter secured at one end to the side 4 of the shoe upper by means of a rivet 18 and at its otherend rovided with a buttonhole 20 to receive a utton 21 also on the member 4. The loo 5 is supported by a tab 22 having a button ole 23therein which is removably supported by a button 24 on the side 6 of the shoe upper.

It will be noted that with all forms of my invention I provide a flexible strap or other similar means which is connected at one end` to one side ofthe shoe upper, which is passed through a loop or other similar device on the other` side of the shoe upper, and Which is removably connected at its end to the same side of the shoe upper to which its other end is connected;

I have illustrated certain of the straps as provided With adj usting means Which permit the several straps to be of different len ths, and hence, insure the proper fitting o the shoe upper to the foot and ankle, and I have illustrated certain of the forms in Which the strap is removable as an entirety or the provide a loop 5 which receives the Whole fastener removable as in Figs. 10, 11,

v12 and 13.

It is obvious that other modifications might bemade in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at libert to make such changes and alterations as airly fall Withinethe spirit and scope of the appended claims. a v

I claim:

a 1. The combination with a shoe, a series of independent loops secured to the outer face of the shoe upper at one side thereof, a series of stra s connected to the shoe upper at the other side thereof,`said straps adapted to be positioned through the loops, and meansremovably connecting the free ends of said straps to the same side of the shoe With which they are secured.

2. A shoe fastener, `comprisingr a loop, means for securing the loop to the outer surface of one Side of the shoe, a flexible connecting member having one end secured to the outer surface of the other sideof the shoe, and means for removably securing;r the free end of the flexible member after it is passed through the loop.
