GARMENT SUPPORT.
emos.
Application filed September 26, 1921.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THRASHER HALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Garment Support, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment supports and is especially applicable for use on childrens garments.
It is the object of the invention to provide a support for the lower garments of either sex, said support comprising suspenders for engaging the shoulders, a belt for embracing the waist, and hose supporters detachably secured to said belt, the belt and hose supporters being adapted for use either together with or independently of the suspenders.
A feature of the invention is the employment upon said belt of buttons, or other fasteners, engageable selectively with the suspenders, the hose supporters, or the lower garments, such as trousers or a skirt.
A preferred embodiment of the inventlon is herein after described, and is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein,
Fig. 1 is a side view of the improved garment support.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the same.
In these views the reference character 1. designates a belt formed preferably of a fabric combining considerable tensile strength with small thickness so that it may be used under the outer garments. A buckle 2, or any suitable quick detachable fastening, connects the ends of the belt in the ordinary manner at the front of the waist line. To said belt there is secured, by stitching 01' any other suitable means, a plurality of buttons 8 spaced preferably equidistantly and a comparatively short distance apart, as for example, two inches. It is preferred to eX- tend this series of buttons around the entire circumference of the belt. 4 designates a pair of ordinary suspenders, secured to certain of said buttons, and 5 a pair of hose supporters secured to certain other buttons 3 below the front attachment tabs 6 of the suspenders. Said supporters are formed of any suitable flexible fabrlc and carry at their lower extremities the usiul hose-engaging fasteners 7. The stressput upon the belt by the supporters is distrlbuted over a considerable length of the belt by stitching or otherwise attaching auxiliary securing Specification of Letters Patent.

strips 8 to the supporters intermediate their ends, said strips extending divergently upward to engage certain of the buttons 3 laterally distant from that engaged by the ver tical main body strip of the supporter. Preferably said main body strips engage buttons intermediate those engaged by the ends of the tabs 6, and the auxiliary strips 8 engage buttons at opposite sides of said tabs, as Fig. 1 clearly shows. The lower garments to be supported may be engaged either with the same buttons to which the suspenders and supporters are attached or with any other of the series of buttons. While the most satisfactory results are secured when the suspenders are employed with the device, the latter may be used, if the wearer desires, with the suspenders removed.
It is a highly desirable feature of the invention that the down-pull of the supporters upon the belt is directly opposed to the up-pull exerted by the front ends of the suspenders so as to substantially neutralize any tendency to deflect or sag the belt from its proper position at the waist line. The arrangement of the buttons on the belt for interchangeable use either to attach the susponders, the supporters, or the lower garments of the wearer is a desirable feature, enabling such adjustment of the parts as to adapt it to varying sizes and secure proper support of the garments.
.Vhat I claim is:
1. A garment support, comprising a belt, a plurality of fasteners cireumferentially spaced equidistant upon said belt, shoulder embracing means having tabs (letachably engaging certain of said fasteners, and hose supporters having strips detachably engaging certain of said fasteners astride the tabs of said shoulder embracing means and inter changeable therewith upon said fastenings.
2. garment support, comprising a belt, suspenders having tab members secured to the front of said belt, hose supporters comprising main body strips secured to the belt between the extremities of said tab members, and auxiliary securing strips divergently Xtending from intermediate points of the main body strips to points upon the belt at each side of the tab members.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification.
THRASI-IER HALL.
