CLASP.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 29, I920.

EMMA I. SHOFF, OF EAST PROS'EECT', PENNSYLVANIA.
CLASP.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Apr, 19 1921 Application filed November 29, 1920. Serial No. 427,178.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMA I. Snorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Prospect, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in clasps for womens and childrens garments and particularly to a clasp of the type known as snap-fasteners.
T he principal object of the invention is to provide a device of the above character which is a. material improvement over conventional hooks and snaps and which is so constructed and arranged on the garment whereby danger of tearing the garment during the fastening or unfastening operation is practically eliminated.
A further object of the invention is to provide a clasp or fastener which is applicable for use in connection with heavy garments and pieces of wearing apparel such as heavy furs, etc, and likewise applicable to garments of very sheer material.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above character which is simple in construction, strong and durable and which is believed may be manufactured and sold at a low cost.
Various other objects and advantages of my invention will become apparent during the continuance of the following description.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view in plan of my invention showing the clasp or fastener members in an open or detached relation.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the parts in a closed or fastened relation.
Fig. 8 is an end view showing more clearly the construction of the clasp members.
Referring now to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts throughout the several views 10 and 11 indicate, in general, the two clasp members of the invention. Inasmuch as the clasp members are of different construction they will be described separately and in detail.
The member 10 consists of an elongated body 12 constructed of wire or other suitable material whose ends terminate in eyes 13 which are adapted to be secured to the garment in the usual manner. Intermediate its ends the body portion 12 is provided with a stud having an enlarged head 14 and a constricted shank 15. The purpose of this construction will be hereinafter set forth.
On the other hand the" member 11 comrwhich is secured in place as at 20. The ends of the spring 19 are free and are bent trans- I versely across the legs of the portion 16 and curved slightly toward the closed end of the U shaped portion. Thus it will be seen that the shank 15 of the head 14 will be allowed to pass into the bulged 16 but will be held agamst accidental displacement.
Upon reference to Figs. 1 and 2 it will be observed that while the U shaped portion 16 is slightly bulged at one end its disconnected ends are slightly constricted at the point of connection with the arm 17 so that when it is arranged about the shank 15 of the stud on the memberlO it will not become" disengaged without theapplication of force properly applied. It will also be seen that by reason of its resilient nature the part 16 may be easily pressed over the head 14 of the stud and likewiseeasily and quickly disengaged therefrom.
art of the portion Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A clasp or fastener comprising inde endent members, a head carried by one 0 said members, said head [having a constricted shank, the other of said members comprising a substantially U shaped body portion,
means carried by said U shaped portion to shaped portion by passing said constricted 10 facilitate its attachment to a support, a shank between the curved ends of said spring spring secured intermediate its ends to the substantially as described.
