Description
J. c YOUNG NECKT'LE HOLDER April 2, 1929.
Filed Sept. 1927 Patented Apr. 1929,.
UNITED STATES JOHN CLIFFORD YOUNG, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
NECKTIE HOLDER.
Application filed September 8, 1927. Serial No. 218,318.
The invention relates to a necktie holder.
The object of the present invention is to' necktie holder of strong, durable, and comparativel inexpensive construction, adapted to be rea ily applied to'a necktie and a shirt and connectin the necktie with the garment and capable 0 allowing a limited-movement of the necktie up and down so that the necktie will not be dislodged when the wearer lifts his chin or moves his head, as is often the case where a single clasp is employed for securing the necktie to the shirt.
When the ordinary clasp is employed for securing the necktie to the shirt, and the necktie is left loose above the clasp, the necktie sags over the clasp and becomes wrinkledand unsightly, and when there is no slack in the necktie above the clasp the knotted portion of the necktie is often dislodged and moved from its proper position when the wearer lifts his chin. The present invention is designed to avoid these objections resulting from the use of the ordinary necktie clasp.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, set forth in the claims appended hereto, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that various changes in the form, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
In the drawing: a
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a necktie holder constructed in accordance with this invention and shown applie; to a necktie, a port-ion of a shirt being shown and a necktie being illustrated in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the ne ktie holder showing the loop member arranged on the lower member of the holder, the device being detached.
Fig. 3 is a similar view, the loop member being removed from the lower, member of the holder.
Fig. is a plan view illustrating another form of loop member. I
In the accompanying drawing, in which are illustrated the preferredembodiments of the invention, the necktie hofd sr comprises in its construction a clasp 1, a short chain 2 or other suitable flexible connection, and a loop member which, in the form illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3, inclusive, consists of an oblong loop. 3 composed of spacedsides and connect- 1ng ends and adapted to be arranged on the clasp 1, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The clasp 1 may be of any desired construction and is composed of upper and lower members 4 and 5 hinged together adacent their rear ends by a suitable pintle 6 and y1eldably urged towards each other by a suitable spring 7. One end of'the chain is suitably secured to the lower clasp member and the loop member, which is secured to the other end of the chain, is adapted to be placed on the upper or lower clasp member. The clasp members are provided at their front ends with inwardly extending teeth or engaging portions 8 for gripping the necktie n the usual manner. In the form illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3, inclusive, of the drawings, the chaln is passed through the adjacent buttonhole 9 of the shirt 10 and the loop member is placed on the lower or rear clasp member or jaw and the clasp is then engaged with the edge of the necktie. The chain permits :1 limited movement of the necktie and retains the same in place without subjecting the necktie to a constant strain which often results in a dislodgement or displacement of the knotted ortion of a necktie when the same is subected to a constant tension with an ordinary clasp.
In Fig. 4 of the accompanying drawing is illustrated another form of loop member 11, having a narrow portion 12 and an enlarged portion 13 forming a substantially keyhole opening. The loop member 11 is designed to be engaged with a button 14 of a shirt, but it may also be placed on the clasp if desired. Various other forms of loop members may, of course, be employed.
. What is claimed is:
.1. A necktie holder com rising a necktie engaging clasp, a loop mem er, and a flexible connection having one end attached to the clasp and the other end attached to the loop member, said loop member being of substantially oblong form and of a size to fit on one of the members of the clasp after being passed through a buttonhole of a shirt, whereby the flexible connection will form a loose such a length as to allow of small relative connection for anchoring the necktie to the movement between the tie and the shirt of the 10 shirt. wearer Without placing the connection under 2. A necktie holder comprising a necktie tension. 5 engaging clasp adapted to engage the side In testimony whereof I have hereunto set .edge of the tie, a rigid loop member, an inmy hand.
elastic flexible connection between the clasp and the loop, the said connection being of JOHN CLIFFORD YOUNG.
