HAT PIN GUARD. APPLICATION FILED MAY 8. i913.
Patented Feb. 6, 1917.
i I avwawtoz G. 25c}: warif,
GARDNER ni' 'scnwnarz, oawim soaogmm;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GARDNER ErSoHwAnTz,
a citizen of theUnited States, Waldoboro, in the county of State of Maine, have invented certainnew residing at and useful Improvements in Hat-Pin Guards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertalns to make and use thesame.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hat pin guards, and has for character which will firmly 'clampthe'point of a hat pin and will still be ornamental. when in position. V j
Another object of my invention is to provide a device which may be attached to a hat and which will remain attached thereto, thus preventing loss or displacement of the same. A still further object of my invention is to provide a hat pin point protector haying a bent shank in which the point of a pm 1s adapted to be inserted 'and firmly held therein by frictional. engagement with the sides thereof. With the above and other objects in, view, I will now proceed to describe my invene tion in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure l is a side view in elevation of a hat showing the same with. my improved guard applied thereto; i
Fig. 2 is afragmental view of a hat show: ing my device in place; I
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View of my improved hat pin protector as it would appearwith a hat pin in place; an
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view of Fig. 7
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, 5 indicates generally a hat,-
comprising the usual crown 6 and the'brim The usual hat band 8 surrounds the crown adjacent the brim, and is secured thereto in theusual manner.
My improved hat pin guard is secured to the hat by means of the attaching members 9, which are adapted to' be stitched to the hat band, as clearly illustrated inlig. l,
Lincoln and same is being put in from accidental of the hat, the
v inwardly,
' and are connectedby me ansof the chain 10 passesc-through-the apertures 11 in the attaching member 9.
A tubulanshank' 12 is provided and is;
adapted to receive the'end of the pin 13, as clearly illustrated .in Fig. 3. One end of the tubular member 12 is-preferably closed Patented Feb. 6; 1917. Application filed May 8, 1913. Serial no; 766,389. r
by the wall 14,'which is adapted to limit the I inward movement of thepin and form an 3 abutment against which the point of the pin is adapted to contact when the device is in'place.
at the opposite end of the tubular member 12.
and is offset, as clearly illustrated in the drawings.
ed to guide the point of the pin when the 16 is formed integral with the flared portion at the point Where the flared portion joins the tubular portion, and'is adapted to slide on the chain 10 so that, regardless of where the hat pinprojects through the hat,
providing it be intermediate the attaching qmembers 9, it will be possible'to Slide the gu'ard along the chain and slip it over the thereby "holding the device displacement. In use the attaching members 9 are secured in place, as described,'and when the point of the pin projects through the crown protector may he slid along the chain until it reaches the desired point. It will then be possible to insert the point end of the in,
: of apin into the flared opening, which will guide the same'until it "reaches the reduced portion. Upon further pressure of the pin will bind between the offset portion and the I'may change the specific arrangements of parts without in any way departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
This flared portion 15 is adaptplace. A suitable loop it will be obvious that the same free ends, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3, thereby holding the device from accidental, movement.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I .claim is: V
A hatpinguard comprising a funnel shapedmember and a tubular niembensaid 5 V A flaredportion 15,is provided, W
tubuler member extenaing angularly from "the top Wall of the tubular member being adapted to. engage and grip a hat pin and a,
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five eents ea o portion thereof extends inan upwardly'inclined plane with relation to the bottom Wall of the tnbnlan member, the upwardly inclined portion 7 Witnesses:
loop formed. on the members at the point Where they join to form attaching means. 10 In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
