' Application filed March-31, 1925; Serial No; 19,681
inc present-invention relates to improve ments in retaining devices for use upon wear ng apparel, and'the primary object of the invention is to provides device of this character which is especially well adapted tor use in preventing the lower portions of ashirt from working upward out of thetrou sers of the wearer. 7
A further SlfQOhGl ElrQ- l Qll-tlillllSlO pro- 4121136121302 shirts, which lrs oi theashirt: for 'ng. thelo i the. device.
A, still further object of the. invention is to provid a device OfllllS clni'acter which is extremely simple in construction, and which may becrcad-ily ad usted longitude nally lLO l'IlGGlJ the requirements o t theeperson wearing the device. 7
A still further object of the invention being to i provide aretainer' Off the character described embodying sanitary features of construction, and being so formed as to become sell adjusting when placed in pos1t1on upon the wearer.
Other objects and advantages ot the invention will be apparent during the course of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which drawing,
Figure 1 is a view showing the improved retainer in position upon a wearer for preventing the shirt -lfroin being pulled upwardly.
Figure 2 is a plan. view of the outer side of the preferred form of the invention, the same being shown in a fiat condition.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the outer side of a slightly modified form of the invention from that shown in Figures 1 and 2.
Figure l is a longitudinal section on the line l-4: of Figure 2; and
Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional view showing the connection between the elastic and inelastic portions of the retainer as illustrated in Figure 2. g
Referring to the drawing in detail, and wherein siinilar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughoutthe several views, the letter A may designate the showing of the preferred form of the invention, and B the modified forin thereof.
bl connection with ofth e.
'' er portions; of the t shirt below thewaistline in avinannerso as.- to not afford any discomfort to the wearer not i In the-example shown, the shirt Cinaybe of the coattype, embodying a tail portion 6 and frontblanks Ydlvidd centrally-eithefrontsof the shirt as is customary in theconstructionot coatshirts i 1 Referring first to the form A oi -the invention, and which is of cY-shape in plan, the .saineeinbodies t vo-strips of elastic webbin-g 9 arranged'in V-shaped converging rela tion to one another; and joined at the apex sectit 1% to one end of ananelastic tang portion 10. This inelastic portion 10, which inaybebfleather or other suitable flexible niateri a1, its-formed: otindependent inner and outensectious, ll and. 12 respectively ar ranged. in, ali ning relation one upon' the othcnand formed at their-innenendswith enlargedhead portions 13 betweenwhich-thee inner ends oi the elastic webbrngs 9 are dis-.
posed an d ecured as. by stitchin'gs 14 extends ing thro elongated n etal damping loop 17 associated;
therewith for cooperating in receiving a por tion of the shirt material in a well known manner. A flexible non-elastic strip 18 is looped through the stud port-ion 16 and extends inwardly upon itself, and has its inner ends secured between the outer end portions of the sections 11 and 12 as by stitchings 19. A transverse stitching 20 provided in the folds of the strip 18 at'a point adjacent the terminals of the sections 11 and 12, i
forms a loop opening 21 for reception of one end of the clamping loop 17.
The elastic strips 9 which are extensible for adjustment of the retainer to meet the,
preferably being provided, with two cross V n the webbingna-nd head portionsj '18. Theclusp lo, preferably includes atternnnally disposed stud portion ltiliavlng anv bars at their inner ends, the terminal cross i bars 24- forining an anchor for the looped ends of the strips 9, and the cross bar 29 forming attaching means for one end of the non-elastic clasp strip 28.
' In the modified form of the invention Lil illustrated in Figure 3, and wherein the principle of the longitudinally adjustable elastic portions and the non-extensible por tion is carried out in a slightly different manner; in this showing, the adjustable elas-- tic portion is of a single strip in contradistinction to a substantially bifurcated elastic portion as illustrated in Figure 2. In the showing in Figure 3, 9 may designate the longitudinally adjustable elastic portion having the clasp 25 attached to the looped end 23 thereof, and having its opposite end secured between the inner ends of a non-extensible portion 10 provided with the clasp Thus it will be seen that in both forms of the retainer is embodied the principle of a fastener adapted to engage the garment, which is non-adjustably carried by a piece of cloth, leather, or other non-extensible material, and to which latter is connected one or more pieces of elastic material, which support in an adjustable manner, the other clasp or fastener for engaging the garment.
In use, the clasp 15 may first be attached to the bottom portion of the back of the shirt, and thebifurcated or extensible elas tic portions 9 brought between the legs and the clasps attached to the respective fronts 7 of the shirt. in use of the form as shown in Figure 3, it will become necessary to place both fronts 7 of the shirt in the clasp 15, should the shirt upon, which the retainer is being used be of the coat type as is illustrated in the drawing.
From the foregoing description of this invention it will be apparent that an extremely eflicient device of this character has been provided which embodies hygienic principles, and which may be worn without discomfort when applied for the purpose for which it is intended Changes in detail may be made to the forms of the invention herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the follow-- ing claim.
I claim:
