Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 21, 1913.
Application ile January 7, 1909. Serial No.V 471,071.
To a-ZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, On'roN4 G. RUST, a
citizen of the United States, residing at" Springfield, in the county of Clark 'and State of Ohio, have invented `certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender- Ends, of which the following is a specificai tion, reference being had therein to the acy companying drawings.
This invention relates to suspender-ends.
cast-OH and will present a sightly appearbody portion, a reinforcing strip and an auxiliary strap, these three members comprising but two pieces of material and being secured together by two fastening de.
vices, thus reducing the number of pieces to be handled in assembling the device and reducing to a minimum the work of assembling the cast-off.
With these objects in view my invention consists in certain novel features and in certain combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter to be described, and then more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of a suspender-'end embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a detail view of the combined body portion -a-nd reinforcing strip; Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of an assembled cast-olf in which the* body portion and reinforcing strip are' .formed integral; Fig. 4: is a sectional view of a similar cast-olf provided with an auxiliary supporting-strap; and Fig. 5 is a sectional view of a cast-off in which the reinforcing strip is formed integral with the supporting-strap- In these drawings I have illustrated three forms .of cast-off, each embodying my invention.
In Figs. 2 and 3 I have shown the castoif as comprising a body portion 1 having one of its end portions adapted to be folded upon itself, as shown at 2, and to form a loop to receive and support button straps 3, the two button straps being, in the present instance, shown as formed integral; The folded over portion of the cast-off is secured to the body portion thereof by means of a suitable fastening device, which, in the present instance, comprises one member, 4L, of a head and socket fastener. A reinforo ing strip 5 is secured to the folded-over end portion of the cast-off and is preferably formed integral therewith. This reinforcing strip has its other end connected to the body portion l of the cast-off at a point some distance removed from the folded-.over end portion thereof, and, in the present instance, this end of the reinforcing strip is fastened to the body portion of the cast-olf means of the other member, 6, of the above-mentioned head and socket fastener. This fastener is preferably located some distance from the adjacent end of the body portion To this end a further object .of the inveny tion is to provide a cast-o comprising a` of the cast-oil", thus causing that portion of the cast-olf lying beyond the fastening device .to extend beyond the folded over portion thereof and form a loop 7 which gives a finished appearance to the cast-oif land conceals from view the rough or unfinished portions thereof.
In Fig. Il I have shown a cast-olf similar in construction to that shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and have sho-wn the same as provided with an auxiliary supporting strap '8, which is secured to the cast-olf at vits upper end'and is provided at its lower end with a suitable clasp 9. The upper .end of the supporting strap S is preferably arranged between the folded-over portion of the .-casteoff and the body port-ion thereof and is secured to the cast-off by the fastening device l, 'by means of which the folded-over portion thereof is secured to the body portion thereof. 'The strap 8 extends downwardly from its point of vconnection to the cast-off, about the button strap 3, which is contained within the folded-over portion 2 of the cast-off, and through an aperture 10 formed in said folded-over portion. Thus, it will be apparent that the completed cast-0E comprises but two pieces of material, one forming the castoff proper and its reinforcing strip Vand the other forming the auxiliary supporting strap. A'single fastening device serves to connect one end of the reinforcing device, folded-over portion'of the cast-0E and the auxiliary supporting strap to the body portion of the cast-off. Further, this fastening device coperateswith the other portion 6, which serves to secure the other end of the reinforcing strip tothe body portion of the cast-od, to form a fastener by means of which the two end portions of the cast-olf are connected one to the other and the castoif secured to the end of the suspenderstrap.
In Fig. 5 I have shown a slightly modilied form of the cast-oli' shown in Fig. 4, and, as there shown, instead of forming the reinforcing strip 5 integral with the foldedover end of the body portion of the cast-off I have formed this reinforcing strip integral with the auxiliary supporting strap 8 and have arranged the same between the folded-over portion of the cast-off and the body portion thereof and secured the three parts together by the fastening device li, as was described in connection with Fig. t. The strap S extends downwardly, about the button st-rap 3 and through the aperture l0, as was also described above.
F rom the foregoing description it will be apparent that I have provided a cast-off composed of a minimum number of parts and adapted to connect the button straps and the auxiliary supporting strap to the suspenderend in a strong and durable manner and of such a construction that, when in its finished condition, it will present a sightly appearance; and that I have provided a east-off comprising a body portion, a folded-over portion, a reinforcing strip and an auxiliary supporting strap, all of which are connected by means of a single fastening device, thus greatly reducing the number of pieces to be handled and the labor necessary in assembling the cast-off.
I wish it to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the details of construction shown and described, for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A one piece cast-off having a central or body portion and upper and lower end portions, the upper end portion being turned downward in front of said body portion and adapted to connect the cast-0H to a suspender, the lower end portion being turned upward between said body portion and said downturned upper end portion to form a loop, said lower end portion having an aperture therein near the bottom of said loop, means for securing said upturned lower end portion to said body portion, and a supporting strap secured tosaid body portion between the same and said upturned lower end portion and extending downward through the aperture in said loop.
2. A one piece cast-off having a central or body portion and upper and lower end portions, the upper end portion being turned downward in front of said body portion and adapted to connect the cast-off to a suspender, the lower end portion being turned upward between said body portion and said downturned end portion to form a loop, said lower end portion having an aperture therein near the bottom of said loop, a reinforcing strip secured to said downturned end port-ion nea-r the free end thereof, extending along the inner surface of said end portion and said body portion, between said upturned end portion and said body portion and having an integral extension passing through the aperture in said upturned end portion and constituting a supporting strap, and a single device for securing said upturned end portion and said combined reinforcing strip and supporting strap to said body portion.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
