THE NORRIS PZTERS co., WASHINGTON, n. c
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SHIRT-WAIST ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 28, 1907.
Application filed May 2, 1906. $erial No- 314,768.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, NELLIE ELIZABETH IIANNA, a citizen of the United'States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shirt-WVaist Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide means to be attached to shirtwaists and to corsets whereby the former will at all times be held down in proper position, thus avoiding the annoyance due to the shirt waist being drawn up at the belt by changes in the position or attitude of the wearer or otherwise the device being adapted to be attached to any shirt waist without change in the latter and serving at the same timeto reinforce and strengthen the garment at the belt line thereof and permitting the shirt waist to be buckled tight at waist thus improving the general'fit and appearance of the shirt waist.
In the accompanying drawings to which reference is made and which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a sectional view illustrating my invention in use, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the shirt waist holder.
In the drawings 2 designates the shirt waist, 3 the corset and 4 the skirt. The corset is provided at the outside and at various places below the waist at front and back with fastening devices 5 preferably in the form of hooks. To the shirt waist at the belt line and upon the inside is secured by stitcl1- ing or otherwise a belt 6 having a buckle 7 for drawing the belt snugly around the corset above the fastening devices 5. To the belt 6 are secured several tabs 8, preferably 4, two at the front and two at the back, though more may be used if desired. The said tabs 8 are arranged to be drawn down and attached to the fastening devices 5 and for this purpose are provided with attaching devices 9 preferably in the form of eyelets. In this manner the shirt waist at the belt line is connected with the corset at points below the belt line so that any tendency ofthe shirt waist to work or draw up is resisted by'the corset connections, thus holding the shirt waist reliably in place and adding largely to the comfort of the wearer.
The belt 6 may be attached to any shirt waist and detached and applied to another without change in the shirt waist, and it adds strength and durability to the garment and allows the shirt waist to be drawn tight around the wearers waist.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I
v 1. A shirt waist provided with a separate belt at the waist line said belt having several tabs depending therefrom, in combination with a corset provided with fastening devices below the .belt line to which said tabs are adapted to be fastened, substantially as described.
2. A shirt waist having a separate detachable belt 6 secured thereto said belt being provided with one or more tabs depending therefrom, in combination with a corset having fastening devices secured thereto below the waist line, substantially as described.
N. ELIZABETH HANNA.
