To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MAURICE I-I. SCHILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cool; andiState of Illinois, have invented certain-new a'nd'useful Improvements in Combined Vest and Belt Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to garments, and more particularly combined vest and belt attachments.

The object of my invention is the provision of a simple and efiicient belt and vest member or attachment which is comfortable in use, and one which may be easily and quickly put on and taken off. Other objects will appear hereinafter. Y

An embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a front view of a coat equipped with my vest and belt attachment.

Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same.

Fig. 3 is an enlarged section taken at the belt line of the coat.

Fig. 4 is a front view of a coat with my belt and vest attachment secured thereto in a different manner, than that shown in Fig. 1.

Fig. 5 is an enlarged section taken at the waist line of the arrangement shown in Fi 4.

Fig. 6 is an enlarged fragmental View of a portion of the belt and vest attachment as applied to a coat.

Fig. 7 is a fragmental section taken on line 77 of Fig. 6.

Fig. 8 is a slightly modified form of belt with a corset attachment thereon.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, I have shown a coat in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 which may be of any conventional design. The form shown is an outing or light unlined coat. In this form of coat, which usually has a belt, I provide openings 15 at its sides at the waist line thereof. Through these openings I dispose my belt member 16 Specification of Letters latent.

lso that theback portion of the belt is disposed around the back of the coat 17. Since the belt passes through the openings 15, it is held against slipping downwardly on the coat. The ends, 18, dfthe belt 16, extend into the coat under'the front portion 16 thereof. On the enols 18 of'the' belt, I provideaplurality of buttons 19.

My vest front attachment preferably comprises two portions 20, detachably secured together at their adjacent front edges by button andibuttonhole connections 21. The

rear ends of the vest attachment are provided with buttonholes 22, which are adapted to engage certain of the buttons '19. 'The arrangement is such that by engaging the buttonholes 22 on the different buttons 19, I

the size of the combined vest front and belt may be yaried, as will be readilyunderstood upon reference to Fig; 3. Any other form of connection between the rear ends of the vest front20 and the front ends 18 of the belt may be provided, when so desired, without departing from my invention.

Figs. 4, 5,6 and? I have shown my combined vest and belt attachment applied to a coat which does not. have a belt exposed across its back. portion. When it is desired to connect the combined belt and vestattachment to the coat,I provide openings 23, in the. lining 24 0f such a coat. The openings 28 are preferably at the sides of the lining at the waist line thereof so that the belt 16 will be disposed'between the lining 24 and the outer part 25 of the coat. In this form the ends 18'eXtend through the openings 23 to the inside of the coat where they are attached by means [of buttons 19 and buttonholes22 to the vest front 20. It will be noted that the vest front portions have substantially straight lines at their upper 'ends,aiid are substantially continuous lines of the upper edge of the beltportion. This is the preferred form, but' these lines may It will be apparent that the vest and belt attachment may be used entirely inside of the coat and not connected thereto in any manner.

In Figs. 8, 9 and 10, I have shown a modi fied form of belt member. In this construction the belt member is made up of material forming the inside and outside covering 26.

The inner and outer sides 26 are held in flat or spread out conditions by a piece of canvas 27, or other suitable material, which is of suflicient size to hold the sides 26 in any other suitable substance. At the rear of "theinner side 26, IproVide loops 30 which are adapted to engage the trouser buttons, not shown, of thewearer to hold the belt in proper position. The front ends of the wide portions 7 are provided with buttons 19, whichthe buttonholes 22 are adapted to engage to secure the vest attachment 20 to the belt. It will be apparent that with this form of belt, that.the openings 15 and 23 must be made larger than where the belt is narrow, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. It will also be apparent that with the form of belt shown in Figs. 8, 9 and 10, the attachment may be used without regard to the coat. The wide belt part of the last-mentioned form. of belt provides a belt which is wide and comfortable in use.

In Figs. 11 and 12, I have shown my vest and belt attachment making up parts of a complete vest. In this form, the vest and belt attachment are substantially the same as shown. in the previous figures and form the lowerpart of the vest. The upper portion 31 :of the vest front is made in the usual manner and provided with a back 32. The lower front edge of the portion 31 is preferably buttoned over the top button 21 of my vest front attachment to hold the upper and lower portions of the vest together. To better holdthese upper and lower portions together, I provide a flap 33 on my vest front. attachment or lower portion which is adapted to button onto buttons 34:

In combination, a coat having openings therein; a belt member having its ends extending through said openings; and a vest attachment attached to the ends of the belt member.

3. In combination, a coat; a belt member attached to the coat; and a vestattachment secured to the belt member inside of the coat.

4. In combination, a coat having openings in its sides at the waist line thereof; a belt member extending through said openin s; and a vest attachment having its ends buttoned to the ends of the belt member.

5. In combination, a coat having openings in its sides at its waist line; a belt member having its central portion disposed around over the back part of the coat and its ends extending through said openings; and a vest member secured to the ends of the belt member on the inside of the coat.

6. In combination, a coat having openings in its sides at its waist line; a belt member having its central portion disposed around over the back part of the coat and its ends extending through said openings; and a vest member removably and adjustably secured to the ends of the belt member on the inside of the coat.
