I en fremgangsmåte for den heterogent katalyserte dehydrogenering i en eller flere reaksjonssoner av et eller flere dehydrogenerbare C2-C3o-hydrokarboner i en reaksjonsgassblanding omfattende disse, idet i det minste en del av dehydrogeneringsvarmen som trenges genereres direkte i reaksjonsgassblandingen i minst en reaksjonssone ved forbrenning av hydrogen, hydrokarbonet eller hydrokarbonene og/eller karbon i nærvær av en oksygenholdig gass, idet reaksjons- gassblandingen omfattende dehydrogenerbare hydrokarbon eller hydrokarboner bringes i kontakt med en Lewis-syre dehydrogeneringskatalysator som hovedsakelig ikke har noen Bronsted-surhet.
