Abstract
FREMGANGSMÅTE VED FREMSTILLING AV FLUFFET MASSE, OG MIDDEL FOR UTFØRELSE DERAV.
Description
Foreliggende oppfinnelse vedrører en fremgangsmåte ved fremstilling av cellulosemasse hvilken ved tørrdefibrering gir såkalt "fluff" med god væskeabsorbsjonsevne og lav absorbsjonstid. Mer bestemt vedrører oppfinnelsen en slik fremgangsmåte hvor en ikke-ionisk bestanddel anvendes for nedsettelse av bindingen mellom cellulosefibrene.
Ved fremstilling av absorberende celluloseprodukter tørrdefibre-res cellulosemasse til "fluff" for anvendelse i f.eks. sanitets-produkter slik som bleier og bind. Cellulosemasse for dette for-mål skal ha lav mekanisk styrke for at fibrene skal kunne sepa-reres fra hverandre uten å ødelegges og for å minske energifor-bruket ved defibreringen. Den etter tørrdefibreringen erholdte fluffede masse skal ha god væskeabsorbsjonsevne og lav absorbsjonstid.
Det er kjent å anvende kationiske overflateaktive midler, slik
som kvarternære ammoniumforbindelser, for å minske cellulose-fibrenes egenbinding. Da disse inneholder en eller flere lange fettkjeder erholdes en vesentlig nedsettelse av vannabsorbsjonstiden. Ytterligere ulemper med de kvarternære ammoniumforbindelser er at de da de som regel inneholder kloridion som anion bevirker korrosjonsskader på apparatur og at de ofte gir en nedsettelse av det fluffede produkts lyshet.
Det er også kjent å tilsette ikke-ioniske bestanddeler til cellulosemasse for nedsettelse av bindingen.
Videré-ar det kjent å anvende ikke-ioniske bestanddeler som utgjøres av etoksylerte eller propoksylerte alifatiske alkoholer eller alkylfenoler, og i svensk patent 402.607
beskrives en fremgangsmåte hvor alkoksylerte alifatiske alkoholer
anvendes i kombinasjon med kvarternære ammoniumforbindelser som retensjonsmidler.
Ifølge foreliggende oppfinnelse har det vist seg at en utmerket effekt med hensyn til de for "fluff"-fremstilling og "fluff" vesentlige egenskaper erholdes ved anvendelse av visse ikke-ioniske fettsyreestere i kombinasjon med kationiske retensjonsmidler.
Ifølge oppfinnelsen anvendes ved fremstilling av absorberende cellulosemasse ikke-ioniske bestanddeler bestående av partielle fettsyreestere av flerverdige alkoholer med 2 til 8 karbonatomer, eller anhydrider derav, eller polyetylen- eller polypropylengly-koler med molvekter opptil 500.
De ikke-ioniske bestanddeler har meget lav affinitet til cellu-losefibre, men ved anvendelsen av en kationisk bestanddel som retensjonsmiddel for disse, kan de ikke-ioniske bestanddelers positive effekt på defibreringsenergi og væskeabsorbsjonstid ut-vikles. Ved kombinasjonen av de spesifikke ikke-ioniske bestanddeler og et kationisk retensjonsmiddel erholdes den for "fluff"-fremstilling og "fluff" vesentlige kombinasjon av egenskaper, dvs. gode defibrerbarhetsegenskaper og kort vannabsorbsjonstid.
Den erholdte gode effekt fås ved anvendelse av bestanddelene i konsentrasjoner hvor de hver for seg ikke ville gi tilsvarende effekt. Fluffet masse fremstilt ifølge oppfinnelsen har videre god lyshet og god væskeabsorbsjonskapasitet. Den lave væskeab-sorbs jonstiden forblir stort sett uforandret ved elding.
Den ifølge oppfinnelsen anvendte ikke-ioniske bestanddel, som
er det hovedsakelige fluffmassekjemikalie, utgjøres av en partiell fettsyreester av alkoholer slik som foran definert, dvs. en fettsyreester inneholdende minst en fri hydroksylgruppe.
Fettsyredelen i esterne utgjøres av en mettet eller umettet fettsyre med 8 til 22 karbonatomer, fortrinnsvis 10 til 18 karbonatomer, og som eksempel på egnede fettsyrer kan nevnes laurin-syre, myristinsyre, stearinsyre, oleinsyre og linoleinsyre.
Hensiktsmessige flerverdige alkoholer, eller anhydrider derav,
for esterdannelse med fettsyrer omfatter etylenglykol, glycerol, diglycerol og høyere glyceroler, propylenglykol, butylenglykol, dietylenglykol, trietylenglykol, xylitol, erytritol, pentaerytri-tol, sorbitol, sorbitan og polyetylenglykoler og polypropylen-glykoler med molekylvekter opptil 500.
Kommersielle estere av glycerol og andre høyere alkoholer ut-gjøres vanligvis av blandinger av mono- og diestere og høyere estere og adskiller seg også med hensyn til de forestrede hy-droksylgruppers stilling. Også sorbitanestere og etoksylerte sorbitanestere utgjøres vanligvis av blandinger av partielle estere av sorbitol og dens anhydrid. Innenfor oppfinnelsens ramme faller selvsagt ikke-ioniske bestanddeler som utgjøres av blandinger av estere. Som eksempel på sorbitanestere som kan anvendes ifølge foreliggende oppfinnelse kan nevnes de som er kommer-sielt tilgjengelige bl.a. under handelsnavnet Span ia og de etoksylerte derivater under handelsnavnet Tween .
Som eksempel på egnede fettsyreestere kan nevnes glycerolmono-stearat, glycerolmonooleat, sorbitanmonolaurat, sorbitanmonoole-at, dietylenglykolmonostearat, dietylenglykolmonooleat, propylen-glykolmonooleat.
Foretrukne ikke-ioniske bestanddeler er fettsyreesterne av alkoholer som inneholder minst en etergruppe slik som fettsyreestere av dietylenglykol, trietylenglykol, polyetylenglykol og polypropylenglykol. Spesielt foretrekkes fettsyreestere av dietylenglykol .
Fettsyreesterne anvendes i kombinasjon med kationiske retensjonsmidler og av den totalt tilsatte mengde ikke-ioniske og kationiske bestanddeler bør mengden kationiske bestanddeler ligge i intervallet 2 til 30 vektprosent, fortrinnsvis i intervallet 5 til 15 vektprosent.
Ved fluffmassefremstilling bør den totale mengde ikke-ioniske
og kationiske bestanddeler som tilsettes cellulosen ligge i intervallet 0,05 - 2 vektprosent og fortrinnsvis i intervallet 0,1 - 0,8 vektprosent regnet på tørr masse. Tilsetningen kan
gjøres til en cellulosemassesuspensjon, hvilket foretrekkes,
men også under formingen til ark- eller baneformet materiale. Videre kan de ikke-ioniske og kationiske bestanddeler tilsettes de aggregater av fibre som erholdes i en del av de prosesser hvor såkalt flashtørking anvendes. Den ifølge oppfinnelsen be-handlede cellulosemasse tørrdefibreres deretter på i og for seg kjent måte.
Som retensjonsmiddel anvendes kvarternære ammoniumforbindelser eller tertiære aminer inneholdende minst en høyere alifatisk hydrokarbonrest, dvs. et uforgrenet eller forgrenet, substituert eller ikke-substituert alkyl eller alkenylgruppe med 8 til 20 karbonatomer. Fortrinnsvis utgjøres den høyere alifatiske hydrokarbonrest av en alkylgruppe. Retensjonsmidlene kan anvendes hver for seg eller i kombinasjon med hverandre.
Det foretrekkes at retensjonsmiddelet utgjøres av kvarternære monoammoniumforbindelser hvilke kan karakteriseres med den gene-
relle formel
hvor minst en av gruppene R betegner en alifatisk hydrokarbonrest med 8 til 20 karbonatomer og de øvrige substituentene uavhengig av hverandre betegner alkylgrupper med 1 til 4 karbonatomer, bensylgrupper, (C^f^O^H eller ( C^ H^ O)nH hvor n = 1 - 6, fortrinnsvis er n = 1. Det totale antall etylenoksyder eller propylenoksydgrupper i molekylene bør dog ikke overstige 10. Kloridionet er det foretrukne anion men kan selvsagt utskiftes med andre slik som bromid, etylsulfation etc. Som eksempel på egnede kvarternære ammoniumforbindelser kan nevnes oktyltrimetyl-ammoniumklorid, dioktyldimetylammoniumklorid, decyltrimetylammo-niumbromid, didecyldimetylammoniumklorid, didecylbensylmetylammo-niumklorid, oktadecyltrimetylammoniumklorid, cetyltrimetylammo-niumbromid.
De kvarternære ammoniumforbindelser med ovenstående formel kan også i den eller de grupper som inneholder en høyere alifatisk hydrokarbonrest være substituerte med etylenoksydgrupper.
Videre kan retensjonsmidlene utgjøres av tertiære aminer med hvilket forstås såvel tertiære monoaminer som di- og polyaminer. Mono- og diaminene foretrekkes imidlertid. Aminene kan foreligge i fri form eller som salt, eksempelvis som hydroklorider.
Tertiære monoaminer har den generelle formel (RJ^N hvor minst
en gruppe er en alifatisk hydrokarbonrest med 8 til 20 karbonatomer og de øvrige substituentene er lavere alkylgrupper med 1 til 4 karbonatomer eller utgjøres av (C-H.O) H eller (C,H,0) H z 4 n j d n hvor n = 1-6, fortrinnsvis = 1. Antallet slike grupper i hvert molekyl bør dog ikke overstige 10. Aminene kan også inneholde eterbindinger i den eller de høyere alifatiske grupper-. Som eksempel på aminer kan nevnes decyldimetylamin, didecyImetylamin, cetyl-di(2-hydroksyetyl)-amin, alkyl-3-oksypropyldimetylamin.
Diaminene og polyaminene kan beskrives med den generelle formel
hvor på tilsvarende måte den eller de høyere alifatiske grupper kan inneholde eterbindinger og de øvrige substituenter uavhengig av hverandre utgjøres av lavere alkylgrupper eller (02^0)11 eller (C,H,0) H hvor n = 1 - 6, fortrinnsvis er n = 1.

m=2-6ogp=0,l eller høyere. Noen eksempler på egnede diaminer er N-stearyl-N-hydroksyetyl, N'-di(2-hydroksyetyl)-1,3 propandiamindihydroklorid, N-decyl-N-hydroksypropyl, N'-di (hydroksypropyl)propandiamindihydroklorid.
Diaminene og polyaminene kan også være partielt eller fullsten-dig kvarternæriserende med vanlige kvarternæriseringsmidler slik som metylklorid, bensylklorid og dietylsulfat.
Oppfinnelsen vedrører også et middel for fremstilling av absorberende cellulosemasse bestående av en blanding av en partiell fettsyreester av dietylenglykol og en kvarternær monoammoniumforbindelse inneholdende minst en alifatisk hydrokarbonrest med 8 til 20 karbonatomer idet mengden kvarternær ammoniumforbindelse lig-ger i intervallet 2 til 30 vektprosent regnet på blandingen,
fortrinnsvis i intervallet 5-15 vektprosent.
Oppfinnelsen skal beskrives nærmere i de etterfølgende utfør-elseseksempler.
Eksempel 1
En bleket sulfatmassesuspensjon med en konsentrasjon på 1% ble tilsatt en blanding av dietylenglykolmonooleat og didecylmetyl-bensylammoniumklorid i vektforholdet 9:1. pH i massen var 7. Ark ble formet på vanlig måte i en laboratoriearkmaskin.
Etter tørking ble arkene undersøkt med hensyn til mekanisk styrke, sprengfaktor ifølge SCAN-P-24:68, og vannabsorbsjonstid. Vannabsorbsjonstiden ble målt ifølge en metode med det prinsipp at tid måles for oppsugning av destillert vann i fluffsøyle på 4,0 g hvilken i en prøvesylinder med 4,9 cm diameter ble komprimert til en høyde på 3,5 cm.
Resultatene vises i tabellen nedenfor. Defibreringsenergien for referanseprøven var 120 kWh/tonn. Denne ble satt til 100% og defibreringsenergien med kombinasjonen ifølge oppfinnelsen ble uttrykt i forhold til dette.
Av tabellen fremgår at det ifølge oppfinnelsen ble erholdt pro-dukter med såvel lav mekanisk styrke som lav vannabsorbsjonstid.

En bleket sulfatmassesuspensjon med en konsentrasjon på 1% og en pH på 7 ble tilsatt forskjellige kombinasjoner av ikke-ioniske forbindelser og kationiske retensjonsmidler ifølge oppfinnelsen. Følgende kombinasjoner ble anvendt: a) Blanding av monooleat av en polyetylenglykol med en molvekt på 200 og didodecyldimetylammoniumklorid i vektforholdet 9:1. b) Blanding av monooleat av en polyetylenglykol med en molvekt på 200 og didecylmetylamin i vektforholdet 9:1. c) Blanding av sorbitanmonolaurat og didecyldimetylammoniumklorid i vektforholdet 9:1. d) Blanding av monolaurat av en polyetylenglykol med en molvekt på 400 og didecyldimetylammoniumklorid i vektforholdet 9:1.
Ark ble formet på vanlig måte i en laboratoriearkmaskin. For de fremstilte ark ble sprengfaktor og vannabsorbsjonstid målt på samme måte som vist i eksempel 1. Defibrerbarheten for de fremstilte ark ble vurdert ved riving av arkene med fingrene.
Resultatene vises i tabellen nedenfor.
Claims (4)
1. Fremgangsmåte ved fremstilling av absorberende cellulosemasse, "fluff", med anvendelse av ikke-ioniske bestanddeler for å minske bindingen mellom cellulosefibrene og med anvendelse av minst ett kationisk retensjonsmiddel, karakterisert ved at det som den ikke-ioniske bestanddel anvendes en partiell fettsyreester av en flerverdig alkohol med 2 til 8 karbonatomer, eller anhydrid derav, eller en partiell fettsyreester av polyetylenglykol eller polypropylenglykol med molvekter opptil 500.
2. Fremgangsmåte som angitt i krav 1, karakteri-sért ved at det som den ikke-ioniske bestanddel anvendes en fettsyreester av dietylenglykol.
3. Fremgangsmåte som angitt i krav 1 eller 2, karakterisert ved at fettsyreester anvendes i kombinasjon med en kvarternær monoammoniumforbindelse inneholdende minst en alifatisk hydrokarbonrest med 8 til 20 karbonatomer.
4. Middel for gjennomførelse av fremgangsmåten som angitt i krav 1, karakterisert ved at det består av en blanding av en partiell fettsyreester av dietylenglykol og en kvarternær monoammoniumforbindelse inneholdende minst en alifatisk hydrokarbonrest med 8 til 20 karbonatomer hvori den kvarternære ammoniumforbindelse utgjør 2 til 30 vektprosent.
