Abstract

Se describe un substrato de vidrio o vitreo que tiene una cantidad de iones metalicos efectiva como antimicrobiano no exudable, letal al contacto, contenida en al menos una region superficial del mismo, y que tiene un color de b* = +6 en la escala internacional de color CIE. El substrato antimicrobiano se prepara al proporcionar un precursor de iones metalicos que comprende al menos una fuente de iones metalicos efectivos como antimicrobianos disuelta o de otra manera dispersa en un material portador; depositar el precursor sobre al menos una superficie del substrato; secar el substrato a una temperatura desde aproximadamente 20 degree C hasta 105 degree C para eliminar los materiales volatiles del precursor de los iones metalicos; y calentar el substrato resultante a una temperatura de aproximadamente 600 - 650 degree C por 2-5 minutos para intercambiar o de otra manera implantar iones metalicos antimicrobianos desde el precursor y en el substrato de vidrio o vitreo.
