Abstract

Un método para producir HMF sustancialmente puro, ésteres de HMF y otros derivados provenientes de una fuente de carbohidratos al poner en contacto la fuente de carbohidratos con un catalizador en fase sólida. La materia prima de carbohidratos se calienta en un solvente en una columna y se hace fluir continuamente a través de un catalizador en fase sólida en la presencia de un ácido orgánico, o se calienta con el ácido orgánico y un catalizador sólido en solución para formar un éster de HMF. El calentamiento sin ácido orgánico forma HMF. El producto resultante se purifica mediante filtración para retirar las materias primas y el catalizador sin reaccionar. El éster de HMF o una mezcla de HMF y éster de HMF pueden oxidarse entonces a ácido 2,5-furandicarboxílico (FDCA) al combinar el éster de HMF con un ácido orgánico, acetato de cobalto, acetato de manganeso y bromuro de sodio bajo presión. Alternativamente, el éster de HMF puede reducirse para formar un diol de furano o de tetrahidrofurano.
