Abstract

Se describe un proceso para convertir hidroximetilfurfural en productos furánicos incluyendo ácido 2,5-furandicarboxílico, que comprende combinar una cantidad de hidroximetilfurfural con agua para proporcionar una solución acuosa que contiene al menos aproximadamente el cinco por ciento en peso de hidroximetilfurfural, y combinar la solución acuosa con una fuente de oxígeno en presencia de un catalizador heterogéneo basado en rutenio y en condiciones que son eficaces para oxidar hidroximetilfurfural en productos furánicos de oxidación incluyendo ácido 2,5-furandicarboxílico, pero en ausencia sustancial de cualquier disolvente para hidroximetilfurfural o ácido 2,5-furandicarboxílico diferente de agua.
