Abstract
é descrito um processo para converter hidroximetilfurfural em produtos furânicos, inclusive de ácido 2,5-furanodicarboxílico, que compreende a combinação de uma quantidade de hidroximetilfurfural com água para fornecer uma solução aquosa contendo pelo menos cinco porcento em peso de hidroximetilfurfural, e a combinação da solução aquosa com uma fonte de oxigênio na presença de um catalisador heterogêneo à base de rutênio e sob condições que são eficazes para oxidar hidroximetilfurfural a produtos furânicos de oxidação, inclusive de ácido 2,5-furanodicarboxílico, mas na ausência substancial de qualquer solvente para o hidroximetilfurfural ou o ácido 2,5-furanodicarboxílico para além da água.
