Abstract

Se describe un metodo para reformar metano con vapor en el cual una corriente de alimentacion (10) es tratada en un reactor (30; 30????) que contiene un catalizador que es capaz de promover ambas reacciones, hidrogenacion y oxidacion parcial. La corriente de alimentacion (10) puede ser un gas residual de refineria. El reactor (30; 30????) es operado en un modo de hidrogenacion catalitica para convertir olefinas en hidrocarburos saturados y/o para reducir quimicamente especies de azufre a sulfuro de hidrogeno o a un modo de oxidacion catalitica que utiliza oxigeno y vapor para realizar la alimentacion y asi, incrementar el contenido de hidrogeno de un gas de sintesis producido por un convertidor de metano con vapor (52). El reactor (30; 32) puede operarse en modos alternativos para proporcionar una produccion de hidrogeno incrementada durante el modo de operacion de oxidacion catalitica o exclusivamente en un solo modo de operacion que implica ya sea un modo de hidrogenacion catalitica o un modo de oxidacion catalitica.
