Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un método para la producción de dióxido de titanio en partículas a partir de tetrahaluros de titanio, caracterizado porque comprende las etapas de: - formar una primera solución acuosa compuesta de un tetrahaluro de titanio y ácido sulfúrico y calentar esta primera solución acuosa a una temperatura suficientemente elevada, con lo que reaccionan el tetrahaluro de titanio y el ácido sulfúrico para producir, en dicha primera solución, un producto intermedio disuelto que comprende sulfato de titanilo; - continuar el calentamiento de la primera solución acuosa a una temperatura elevada y en presencia de una cantidad de un sulfato de titanilo en partículas previamente preparado, con lo cual dicho producto intermedio disuelto del sulfato de titanilo es obligado a cristalizar en dicha primera solución acuosa; - separar el producto intermedio de sulfato de titanilo cristalizado de dicha primera solución acuosa, para producir una torta de filtración húmeda que comprende licor madre residual y dicho producto intermedio de sulfato de titanilo cristalizado.
