Abstract

본 발명은 광섬유 어댑터를 탑재하기 위한 개구 내에 맞는 사이즈의 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더에 관한 것이다. 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더는 페룰에 의해 수용된 광섬유의 연마 단부면과 페룰 주위에 위치한 더스트캡을 가진 광섬유 컨넥터가 컨넥터 홀더에 의해 착탈식으로 수용되고 그 내부에 삽입될 수 있도록 구성된다. 본 발명은 또한 광섬유 컨넥터를 탑재하기 위한 벌크헤드의 개구 내에 탑재된 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더를 포함한 광섬유 컨넥터 수용 시스템에 관한 것이다. 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더는 페룰에 의해 수용된 광섬유의 연마 단부면과 페룰 주위에 탑재된 먼지 캡을 가진 광섬유 컨넥터를 수용하도록 구성된다. 본 발명은 또한 광섬유 컨넥터가 페룰 주위에 탑재된 더스트캡 및 그 페룰에 의해 수용된 광섬유의 연마 단부면을 포함할 때에 광섬유 컨넥터를 벌크헤드에 고정하는 방법에 관한 것이다.

Description

광섬유 컨넥터 홀더 및 방법{FIBER OPTIC CONNECTOR HHOLDER AND METHOD}
본 발명은 일반적으로 광섬유 컨넥터용 홀더에 관한 것이며, 더욱 상세하게는 더스트캡에 의해 보호되는 광섬유 컨넥터용 홀더에 관한 것이다.
광섬유 컨넥터(Fiber Optic Connector)는 보통 페룰(Ferrule)에 의해 수용된 연마 단부면(Polished End Face)을 포함하는데, 이것은 컨넥터에 의해 수용된 광섬유의 위치 변경을 가능하게 하여 신호를 다른 광섬유나 광학 광원에 송수신한다. 컨넥터에 수용된 광섬유와의 광 송수신을 개선하기 위해서는 가능한 한 이러한 연마 단부면이 오염되지 않도록 하는 것이 바람직하다. 광섬유와의 광 송수신에 안좋은 영향을 미치는 그와 같은 오염물에는 먼지나 지문이 있지만, 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
더스트캡(Dust Cap)은 광섬유의 연마 단부면을 보호하기 위해 컨넥터에 제공된다. 그러나, 그러한 더스트캡이 설치되면, 미국특허 제5,317,663호와 미국특허 제6,347,888호에 기재된 것과 같은 공지된 광섬유 어댑터(Adapter) 내에 컨넥터가 수용될 수 없게 된다. 이들 특허 문헌에 개시된 사항은 참고로 이 명세서에 편입된다. 컨넥터는 교차 접속 지점, 상호 접속 지점 또는 다른 유형의 통신 교환/접속 장치의 선(先) 배선이나 보관을 위해 이들 공지된 어댑터 중 하나에 더스트캡이 제거된 상태로 삽입될 수 있다. 어댑터는 어댑터에 삽입된 단일 컨넥터에 대해 어느 정도의 오염 방지를 해 줄 수는 있지만, 연마 단부면을 보호하는데 있어 더스트캡만큼이나 효율적이지는 못하다.
통신 장치들 내에 광섬유 컨넥터의 연마 단부면을 보호하기 위해 공지된 방법이나 장비를 개선할 필요가 있다.
본 발명은 광섬유 어댑터 탑재용의 개구(Opening) 내에 들어맞는 사이즈의 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(Holder)에 관한 것이다. 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더는 페룰과 그 페룰에 수용된 광섬유의 연마 단부면의 둘레에 위치한 더스트캡을 가진 광섬유 컨넥터가 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더에 삽입되고 착탈식으로 수용되게 할 수 있는 구조로 되어 있다.
본 발명은 또한 광섬유 어댑터를 탑재하기 위한 벌크헤드(Bulkhead)의 개구 내에 탑재된 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더를 포함한 광섬유 컨넥터 수용 시스템에 관한 것이다. 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더는 페룰과 그 페룰에 의해 수용된 광섬유의 연마 단부면의 둘레에 탑재된 더스트캡을 가진 광섬유 컨넥터를 받아들이도록 구성되어 있다. 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더는 상기 벌크헤드로부터 제거될 수 있으며, 광섬유 어댑터는 동일한 개구 내에 탑재될 수 있다.
본 발명은 또한 페룰과 그 페룰에 의해 수용된 광섬유의 연마 단부면의 둘레에 탑재된 더스크캡을 광섬유 컨넥터가 포함하는 경우에, 벌크헤드에 광섬유 컨넥터를 수용하는 방법에 관한 것이다.

이제 도 1 및 도 2 를 참조하면, 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(10)는 내부 공동(Cavity, 14)을 정의하는 주수용부(Main Housing, 12)를 포함한다. 개방단(18)은 광섬유 컨넥터(100)를 공동(14)에 삽입할 수 있게 하는 반면, 반대측 개구(16)는 더스트캡(104)이 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(10)로부터 돌출할 수 있도록 한다. 클립(20)은 주수용부(12)의 둘레에 위치하며, 한쌍의 스프링 탑재 클립(Spring Mounting Clip, 22)을 포함한다. 한쌍의 플랜지(Flange, 24)는 스프링 클립(22)에 인접한 주수용부(12)의 반대측(26)으로부터 뻗는다. 클립(22)과 플랜지(24)는 아래에 나타낸 바와 같이 벌크헤드의 개구에 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(10)를 착탈식으로 탑재하도록 작용한다.
주수용부(12)는 또한 공동(14)에의 삽입 시 광섬유 컨넥터(100)를 지속적으로 방향 잡아서 광섬유 컨넥터(100)의 홈에 따른 삽입을 받아들이도록 키웨이(Keyway, 28)를 가진 하부(30)를 포함한다. 하부(30)의 맞은편에는 상부 개방의 폐쇄된 커버(32)가 있다. 이것은 이하 도 12 에 보다 자세히 나타나 있다. 도 3 내지 도 7 은 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(10)의 모습을 추가적으로 나타낸다.

Claims (16)

  1. 광섬유의 연마 단부면을 수용하는 광섬유 컨넥터(100)의 페룰(102) 둘레에 탑재된 더스트캡(104)과 함께 상기 광섬유 컨넥터(100)를 수용하기 위한 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(10)에 있어서,
    상기 더스트캡(104)은 폐쇄단(112)으로부터 대향되게 위치된 개방단(110)을 가지며, 상기 더스트캡(104)은 더스트 캡의 상기 개방단(110)으로부터 상기 폐쇄단(112)으로 연장되는 중앙 개구(108)를 형성하는 내부면을 포함하고, 상기 더스트캡(104)은 상기 페룰(102)의 측면에 결합되는 상기 더스트캡(104)의 내부면과, 상기 광섬유의 연마 단부면에 대향된 상기 더스트캡(104)의 폐쇄단(112)으로 상기 광섬유 컨넥터(100)의 상기 페룰(102) 상에 탑재되고,
    상기 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(10)는 내부 공동(cavity)(14)을 형성하고, 상기 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(10)는 상기 내부 공동(14) 내로 상기 광섬유 컨넥터(100)의 삽입을 가능하게 하는 개방단(18) 및 상기 더스트캡(104)이 상기 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(10)로부터 돌출가능하게 하는 반대측 개구(16)를 구비하고, 상기 광섬유 컨넥터(100)가 상기 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(10)에 저장될 때 상기 더스트캡(104)은 상기 광섬유 컨넥터(100)의 페룰(102) 상에 탑재되는 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더.
  2. 청구항 1에 있어서,
    상기 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(10)는 상기 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(10)를 벌크헤드(bulkhead)(82)에 고정하도록 형성된 스프링 탑재 클립(22)을 포함하는 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더.
  3. 청구항 2에 있어서,
    상기 스프링 탑재 클립(22)은 상기 벌크헤드(82)의 개구(84)를 통하여 삽입되도록 형성된 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더.
  4. 청구항 1에 있어서,
    상기 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(10)는, 상기 광섬유 컨넥터(100)가 상기 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더(10)의 내부로 삽입될 때에 휘어지는 한쌍의 클립암(clip arm)(48)을 포함하는 광섬유 컨넥터 홀더.
