Claims (22)
- 적어도 한쪽이 투명한 한 쌍의 기판과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판사이에 배치된 액정층과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판의 한쪽의 기판상에 형성되어 기판면에 거의 평행한 전계를 상기 액정층에 인가하기 위한 전극군 및 이들의 전극에 접속된 복수의 액티브소자와,상기 한 쌍의 기판상의 상기 액정층에 접촉하는 면상에 형성된 배향제어막과, 상기 액정층의 분자배향상태에 따라 광학특성을 바꾸는 광학수단으로 이루어지는 액정표시장치에 있어서,상기 액정층의 두께는 상기 한 쌍의 기판사이로 분산되어 끼워유지된 스페이서에 의하여 거의 일정한 두께로 제어되고, 상기 한 쌍의 기판의 적어도 한쪽의 액정층에 접하는 쪽의 표면상에서, 표시화소내에 형성되어 표면에 상기 배향제어막을 가지는 단차부의 경사도(a/b)가 1 이하이며, 상기 배향제어막이 편광광조사에 의하여 액정배향능을 부여가능한 재료로 이루어지고, 편광광조사에 의하여 단차근방까지 액정배향능이 부여된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1항에 있어서,상기 액정층의 두께(d)에 대한 상기 단차의 높이(a)의 비, a/d가 0.02 내지 1의 범위인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1항 또는 제 2항에 있어서,상기 한 쌍의 기판중, 상기 단차가 형성된 표면을 가지는 쪽의 기판이 상기 전극군을 가지는 기판인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1항 또는 제 2항에 있어서,상기 한 쌍의 기판중, 상기 단차가 형성된 표면을 가지는 쪽의 기판이 상기 전극군을 가지는 기판에 대향배치된 다른쪽의 기판인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 4항에 있어서,상기 다른쪽의 기판에 복수의 색상이 다른 컬러필터가 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 5항에 있어서,상기 단차가 복수의 색상이 다른 컬러필터의 경계상에 형성된 블랙매트릭스의 근방에 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 6항에 있어서,상기 블랙매트릭스가 수지재료와 흑색안료로 이루어지고, 빛이 투과하는 화소부보다도 두꺼운 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 5항에 있어서,상기 복수의 색상이 다른 컬러필터에 대응하는 화소부의 액정층 두께가 다른 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1항 또는 제 2항에 있어서,상기 액정층의 유전율 이방성이 양이고, 또 상기 액정층의 상기 배향제어막상의 전계무인가시의 배향방향과 전계방향이 이루는 각이 45∼88도인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1항 또는 제 2항에 있어서,상기 액정층의 유전율 이방성이 음이고, 또 상기 액정층의 상기 배향제어막상의 전계무인가시의 배향방향과 전계방향이 이루는 각이 2∼45도인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 적어도 한쪽이 투명한 한 쌍의 기판과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판사이에 배치된 액정층과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판의 한쪽의 기판상에 형성되어 기판면에 거의 평행한 전계를 상기 액정층에 인가하기 위한 전극군 및 이들의 전극에 접속된 복수의 액티브소자와,상기 한 쌍의 기판상의 상기 액정층에 접촉하는 면상에 형성된 배향제어막과, 상기 액정층의 분자배향상태에 따라 광학특성을 바꾸는 광학수단으로 이루어지는 액정표시장치에 있어서,상기 액정층의 두께는 상기 한 쌍의 기판사이에서 화소의 불투명부에 형성된 스페이서에 의하여 거의 일정한 두께로 제어되고, 표시화소내에 형성되어 표면에 상기 배향제어막을 가지는 단차부의 경사도(a/b)가 l 이하이며, 상기 배향제어막이 편광광조사에 의하여 액정배향능을 부여가능한 재료로 이루어지고, 편광광조사에 의하여 표시영역의 거의 전역에서 액정배향능이 부여된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 11항에 있어서,상기 스페이서가 포토리소그래피공정에 의하여 형성된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 12항에 있어서,상기 스페이서가 블랙매트릭스상으로 형성된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1항 내지 제 13항중 어느 한 항에 있어서,상기 배향제어막이 광이성화 반응성을 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 14항에 있어서,상기 배향제어막이 아조벤젠기, 스틸벤기중 어느 하나를 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 14항 또는 제 15항에 있어서,상기 배향제어막과 상기 배향제어막을 가지는 기판과의 사이에 상기 배향제어막보다도 두껍게 또한 투명한 유기고분자층이 개재하고 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 16항에 있어서,상기 유기고분자층이 기판면, 상기 배향제어막층과의 밀착성을 좋게 하는 커플링제를 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 16항에 있어서,상기 투명한 유기고분자층의 두께가 0.2 ∼ 3 미크론이며, 상기 배향제어막의 두께가 0.01∼0.1 미크론인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 16항 내지 제 18항중의 어느 한 항에 있어서,상기 배향제어막과 상기 투명한 유기고분자층의 어느하나가 폴리이미드로 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 19항에 있어서,상기 투명한 유기고분자층이 비정질인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 19항 또는 제 20항에 있어서,상기 투명한 유기고분자층의 농도가 8% 이상인 폴리아믹산을 이미드화가 적어도 부분적으로는 진행되는 온도로 가열하여 형성된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 19항 또는 제 20항에 있어서,상기 배향제어막의 농도가 0.5 ∼6% 의 가용성 폴리이미드 또는 폴리아믹산을 도포하여 적어도 용제가 증발하는 온도이상으로 가열하여 형성된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
