(57)【要約】 【目的】 良好な画面の表示品質を有する液晶表示装置
を得ること。 【構成】 カラーフィルタ側の基板１とＴＦＴ側の基板
３との間に於いて、カラーフィルタ側の基板１からＲＧ
Ｂの順番に各色を重畳して構成された３層構造部を、カ
ラーフィルタ２間に設けた構成。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は、特にスペーサとして使
用されるＴＦＴ液晶表示装置に関する。
【０００２】
【従来の技術】従来、一般に使用されているＴＦＴ液晶
表示装置のスペーサに於いては、図２に示すように、Ｔ
ＦＴ側の基板ａと、カラーフィルタｃ側の基板ｄとの間
にプラスチックビーズｂを設置している。ところが、そ
のプラスチックビーズｂはＴＦＴ側の基板ａとカラーフ
ィルタｃ側の基板ｄとの間のどの位置に設置するかは定
まっていない。又プラスチックビーズｂ以外に、その他
のスペーサとしてガラス繊維を使用しているのが実情で
ある。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】上記のような従来の液
晶表示装置に於いては、スペーサとして使用されている
プラスチックビーズｂは、それを設置すべき位置が定ま
っていないので、絵素部に乗ってしまったり、又凝集し
てしまったりする状態が起こるが、このような状態が起
こると、プラスチックビーズｂが光る現象を発生した
り、又プラスチックビーズ以外のものをスペーサとして
使用した場合には、セル厚を一定にするという条件を満
足できない欠点がある。このような点に起因して良好な
表示品質の画面を有する液晶表示装置を得ることができ
ないという問題点がある。
【０００４】本発明は前記のような問題点に鑑み、スペ
ーサを固定すると共に、セル厚を一定にすることによ
り、前記した従来の欠点を除去できる液晶表示装置を提
供することを目的とするものである。

【課題を解決するための手段】前記目的を達成するため
に、本発明に係る液晶表示装置は、複数の絵素と各絵素
を駆動するための薄膜トランジスタとをマトリックス状
に配置すると共に、複数の走査線及び信号線を具備した
アクティブマトリクス液晶表示装置に於いて、カラーフ
ィルタのＲＧＢの各色を重畳して構成されている３層構
造部を、前記各絵素間に配置することによりスペーサ機
能を付与しているのである。

【作用】本発明に係る液晶表示装置は前記のように構成
されており、次にその作用について述べると、絵素部に
スペーサが乗るような現象が起こることがないのは勿論
のこと、又凝集する現象が起こることもなく、而も常に
セル厚を一定にする手段を有しているので、表示装置と
しての画面の表示品質を良好に保持することができるの
である。

【実施例】次に、図面を参照しながら本発明に係る液晶
表示装置の実施例を具体的に説明する。図１は本発明に
係る液晶表示装置の実施例を示したものの断面図で、カ
ラーフィルタ側のパターンニングを変更した状態を示し
ている。即ち、各々のカラーフィルタ２間、換言すると
ブラックマトリックスの位置に於いて、カラーフィルタ
２側の基板１の位置からＲＧＢの順番に各色を重畳して
構成されている３層構造部を、各々のカラーフィルタ２
間に設けることにより、カラーフィルタ２側の基板１に
スペーサが設置された状態と同様の状態となるのであ
る。なお、図１に於いて、３はＴＦＴ側の基板である。
【０００８】このようにして、カラーフィルタ２側の基
板１のブラックマトリックス部の位置に、スペーサとし
て、カラーフィルタ２間にＲＧＢの順番に各色を重畳し
て構成されている３層構造部を設けることにより、スペ
ーサはブラックマトリックス部の位置だけに存在するこ
とになり、而もスペーサの厚みを一定に保持することが
できるのである。

【発明の効果】本発明に係る液晶表示装置は前記のよう
に構成して成るもので、以下のような効果を具備してい
る。即ち、従来の装置のように、スペーサとして光るプ
ラスチックビーズを使用していないから、表示面が光る
現象が起こることがなく、又セル厚を常に一定に保持す
ることができて、液晶表示装置として極めて良好な表示
品質の画面を得ることができる特長がある。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 複数の絵素と各絵素を駆動するための薄
    膜トランジスタとをマトリックス状に配置すると共に、
    複数の走査線及び信号線を具備したアクティブマトリク
    ス液晶表示装置に於いて、カラーフィルタのＲＧＢの各
    色を重畳して構成されている３層構造部を、スペーサ機
    能として前記各絵素間に配置することを特徴とする液晶
    表示装置。
