Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a semihard magnetic alloy holding composite magnetic characteristics in spite of a simple alloy by adding a small amount of Ni, Mo or Ti as a secondary component to an Fe-Cr-Co-Si alloy having a specified composition.
CONSTITUTION: This semihard magnet alloy consists of 17W35% Cr, 8W20% Co, 0.1W5% Si and the balance Fe and further contains one or more among ≤3% Ni, ≤5% Mo and ≤3% Ti. An alloy having the composition is refined and subjected to soln. heat treatment in an α+γ 2-phase region. As a result, by allowing α to contribute chiefly to higher coercive force and γ to contribute to lower coercive force by making use of spinodal decomposition and γ→α' (ferromagnetic martensite) transformation mechanisms, respectively, superior composite magnetic charcteristics are provided. This semihard magnetic alloy is used as a material for the iron cores of a magnetic self-retaining type relay, a switch, etc. In addition, it has superior workability.
