Abstract

PURPOSE: To economically manufacture a nonmagnetic steel with remarkably high specific resistance and very stable nonmagnetism by adding Si to a high- Mn steel to such a degree that the stability of the austenite is not deteriorated.
CONSTITUTION: To the titled alloy consisting of 0.01W1.5% C, 0.3W10% Si, 10W30% Mn and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities may be added one or more among ≤5% Cr, ≤5% Ni, ≤5% Cu, ≤5% Co, ≤1% Al, ≤1% Nb, ≤1% Ti and ≤1% V. C is added to provide mechanical strength in the economical range. Mn stabilizes the austenite of the inexpensive nonmagnetic steel, and Si increases the specific resistance. Cr, Ni, Cu, Co, Al, Nb, Ti or V is added as an assistant for enhancing the mechanical characteristics and stabilizing the nonmagnetism.
