Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an inexpensive stainless steel having improved rust proofness and improved free cutting property, having a specific composition with C, Si, Mn, Cu, Mo, etc.
CONSTITUTION: An austenite stainless, consisting of 0.1% or less C, 2% or less Si, 2% or less Mn, 0.1W0.35% S, 1W3.5% Cu, 8W12% Ni, 16W21% Cr, 0.1W0.4% Ti, and Fe and inevitable impurities, is more inexpensive because of no use of expensive Se, of higher rust-proofness and free-cutting property, and manufactured in higher yield without causing any environmental pollution than the conventional stainless steels. Further addition of 0.1W2% Mo to said composition enables one to largely increase corrosion resistance, or to largely reduce pitting due to Cl- ion.
